2014. INTERIOR SYSTEMS. 3 cr. A study <strong>of</strong> interior environmental<br />
systems including construction techniques, m<strong>at</strong>erial handling,<br />
storage and transport<strong>at</strong>ion. M<strong>at</strong>erials and systems influence <strong>of</strong><br />
interior design as they pertain to acoustics, sound transmission,<br />
fire hazards, lighting, and energy.<br />
2020. CONSTRUCTION INSPECTION. 4 cr. Introduction to principles<br />
and practices <strong>of</strong> inspecting construction projects-in-progress with<br />
emphasis on the n<strong>at</strong>ure <strong>of</strong> construction problems encountered on<br />
the job site.<br />
2021. LOCAL AND STATE BUILDING CODES. 3 cr. Under direct<br />
supervision, the student trainee develops effective public contacts<br />
with builders and contractors in conducting routine work within a<br />
building department <strong>of</strong>fice.<br />
2022. PLAN AND SPECIFICATION REVIEWS. 3 cr. Under direct<br />
supervision, the student trainee examines plans and<br />
specific<strong>at</strong>ions <strong>of</strong> buildings for conformity with zoning regul<strong>at</strong>ions<br />
and building laws.<br />
2023. RESIDENTIAL INSPECTIONS. 3 cr. Inspection <strong>of</strong> fences, p<strong>at</strong>ios,<br />
carports, residential blockwalls, etc.; conducting occupancy<br />
surveys in various structures such as apartments and hotels.<br />
2024. COMMERCIAL AND INDUSTRIAL INSPECTIONS. 3 cr.<br />
Inspection <strong>of</strong> buildings under construction, alter<strong>at</strong>ion or repair for<br />
compliance with building laws.<br />
2025. DAMAGED BUILDING INSPECTIONS. 2 cr. Inspection <strong>of</strong><br />
damaged buildings and reporting needs for repair or demolition.<br />
2050. STRUCTURAL SYSTEMS. 3 cr. A survey <strong>of</strong> structural systems<br />
including the design <strong>of</strong> temporary structures. Prerequisites:<br />

3022. PIPELINE CONSTRUCTION. 3 cr. An introduction to pipeline<br />
construction including basic design consider<strong>at</strong>ions, standards and<br />
regul<strong>at</strong>ions, estim<strong>at</strong>ing and bidding, acquisition <strong>of</strong> Right-<strong>of</strong>-Way,<br />
construction equipment and procedures, safety, and pipeline<br />
maintenance. Prerequisite: approval <strong>of</strong> director.<br />
3024. ENVIRONMENTAL CONSTRUCTION. 3 cr. An introduction<br />
to pollutants, hazardous and toxic substances encountered<br />
on the job site. Emphasis on biological hazards, health safety<br />
standards in regard to handling and disposal <strong>of</strong> products and<br />
liability management. Prerequisite: junior standing. F<br />
3028. CAPITAL PROJECTS. 3 cr. Theory <strong>of</strong> control and management<br />
by owner corpor<strong>at</strong>ions <strong>of</strong> cost, time, and value <strong>of</strong> construction<br />
for capital ventures. Techniques for control <strong>of</strong> projects, with<br />
emphasis on general principles and rel<strong>at</strong>ionships. Prerequisites:<br />
approval <strong>of</strong> director.<br />
3050. MECHANICAL SYSTEMS OF BUILDINGS. 2 cr. Principles and<br />
practices <strong>of</strong> sanit<strong>at</strong>ion, w<strong>at</strong>er supply, he<strong>at</strong>ing, cooling, ventil<strong>at</strong>ion,<br />
smoke management, and fire suppression systems. Emphasis<br />
on general principles, rel<strong>at</strong>ionships and language needed by the<br />

<strong>of</strong> construction oper<strong>at</strong>ions including applicable indirect<br />
and overhead cost, and the prepar<strong>at</strong>ion <strong>of</strong> bid proposals for<br />

4010. ANALYTIC AND CONCEPTUAL ESTIMATING. 3 cr. Separ<strong>at</strong>ion<br />
<strong>of</strong> conceptual planning into its constituent elements and essential<br />
fe<strong>at</strong>ures. Feasibility <strong>of</strong> a construction project by analysis <strong>of</strong><br />
income, construction investment, oper<strong>at</strong>ing cost and risk.<br />

4012. ADVANCED PROJECT CONTROL SEMINAR. 3 cr. Continu<strong>at</strong>ion<br />
<strong>of</strong> 4007/4015 with emphasis on job control <strong>of</strong> resources, cost<br />
control and reporting. Selected current construction projects used<br />
with research in the field and group analysis and discussion in<br />
regular class meetings. Five hours a week are required for field<br />
and classroom. Prerequisites: 4007, 4015.<br />
4014. CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT. 3 cr. Management principles<br />
as applied to the construction contractor. Prerequisite: junior<br />

4028. VALUE MANAGEMENT. 3 cr. Utiliz<strong>at</strong>ion <strong>of</strong> the constructor’s<br />
special knowledge to cut the cost <strong>of</strong> a construction project to<br />
the lowest practicable level without compromising its function<br />
or sacrificing quality and aesthetics. Prerequisite: approval <strong>of</strong><br />
director and junior standing.
