1002. THREE DIMENSIONAL DESIGN. 3 cr. Applic<strong>at</strong>ion <strong>of</strong> basic<br />

principles and elements <strong>of</strong> design to three dimensional problems.<br />

One hour lecture and five hours studio. Prerequisite: 1001.<br />

1003. DRAWING. 3 cr. Beginning drawing in a variety <strong>of</strong> media. One<br />

hour lecture and five hours studio. Additional course fee $50.<br />

1004. FIGURE DRAWING. 3 cr. Drawing made from models. Six hours<br />

studio. Prerequisite: 1003. Additional Course Fee $50.<br />

1009. ART APPRECIATION. 3 cr. A general orient<strong>at</strong>ion and<br />

understanding <strong>of</strong> visual and plastic art forms. For non-art majors.<br />

1010. HONORS ARTS. 3 cr. Questions <strong>of</strong> aesthetics, issues <strong>of</strong><br />

performance and/or exhibition, aspects <strong>of</strong> cre<strong>at</strong>ivity in one or<br />

more <strong>of</strong> the arts. Course content varies and may link two or more<br />

disciplines. Prerequisite: Admission to the Honors Program or<br />

permission <strong>of</strong> the Honors Council. (Formerly HONR 110H)<br />

2000. ANALYTICAL PERSPECTIVE. 3 cr. The principles <strong>of</strong> geometry<br />

in the development <strong>of</strong> sp<strong>at</strong>ial logic and imagery in one-point,<br />

two-point, and isometric perspective will be used. Techniques<br />

in rendering support procedures in architecture, illustr<strong>at</strong>ion, and<br />

industrial and environmental design. For art majors and non-art<br />

majors. Six hours studio. Additional course fee $50.<br />

2001. SURVEY OF ART I. 3 cr. each. Basic concepts and styles in art<br />

from prehistoric to present times.<br />

2002. SURVEY OF ART II. 3 cr. each. Basic concepts and styles in art<br />

from prehistoric to present times.<br />

2003. HANDBUILDING CERAMICS. 3 cr. Lectures and demonstr<strong>at</strong>ions<br />

on fundamental methods <strong>of</strong> forming, glazing, and firing ceramics.<br />

One hour lecture and five hours studio. Additional course fee $50.<br />

2004. WHEEL THROWING CERAMICS. 3 cr. Lectures and<br />

demonstr<strong>at</strong>ions on use <strong>of</strong> the potter’s wheel. One hour lecture<br />

and five hours studio. Additional course fee $50.<br />

2005. GRAPHIC DESIGN I. 3 cr. Introduction to graphic design<br />

concepts and media common to advertising and commercial art.<br />

Emphasis on communic<strong>at</strong>ion through the visual idiom. One hour<br />

lecture and five hours studio. Prerequisite: 1001 and 1003 or<br />

approval <strong>of</strong> department head. (Formerly Advertising Design 205.)<br />

2006. GRAPHIC DESIGN II. 3 cr. Typography, its usage as a design<br />

element, the layout and design <strong>of</strong> public<strong>at</strong>ions and introduction to<br />

3000. PORTFOLIO. 1 cr. Maximum 3 hrs. Present<strong>at</strong>ion <strong>of</strong> work<br />

<strong>at</strong> the sophomore, junior and senior levels <strong>of</strong> art leading to a<br />

pr<strong>of</strong>essional quality portfolio upon gradu<strong>at</strong>ion.<br />

3001. CALLIGRAPHY. 3 cr. A comprehensive study <strong>of</strong> hand lettering.<br />

Vari<strong>at</strong>ions in styles are complemented with a study <strong>of</strong> motifs<br />

executed in pen and ink. For art majors and non-art majors.<br />

3056. ADVANCED COLOR PHOTOGRAPHY. 3 cr. Theory<br />

and practice <strong>of</strong> advanced color photography for the cre<strong>at</strong>ive<br />

photographer. Prerequisites: Art 2046 and 2056, or permission <strong>of</strong><br />

department head. Additional course fee $50.<br />

3073. INTERMEDIATE PAINTING. 3 cr. Maximum 6 hrs. Further<br />

development <strong>of</strong> painting technique and conceptual problem<br />

solving. One hour lecture and five hours studio. Prerequisites: ART<br />

2073 or approval <strong>of</strong> department head. Additional course fee $50.<br />

3081. INTERMEDIATE SCULPTURE. 3 cr. Further development <strong>of</strong><br />

sculptural processes and techniques in a variety <strong>of</strong> media. One<br />

4001. ADVANCED CERAMICS. 3 cr. Maximum, 12 hrs. Origin and<br />

properties <strong>of</strong> ceramics raw m<strong>at</strong>erials and problems in glaze<br />

research. One hour lecture and five hours studio. Prerequisite:<br />

2003 or 2004. Additional course fee $50.<br />

4002. CREATING PAPER/CASTING AND MOLDING. 3 cr. Study and<br />

processing <strong>of</strong> basic skills in cre<strong>at</strong>ing paper from lamin<strong>at</strong>ions<br />

to cast paper. One hour lecture, 5 hours labor<strong>at</strong>ory per week.<br />

Prerequisite: 1001. Additional course fee $50.<br />

4004. ADVANCED DRAWING. 3 cr. Maximum, 12 hrs. Advanced<br />

drawing. Primarily life drawing in a variety <strong>of</strong> media. Six hours<br />
