1013. INTRODUCTION TO SPEECH/LANGUAGE/HEARING<br />
DISORDERS. 3 cr. For SPLP majors in the College <strong>of</strong> Health<br />
Sciences, for Health Care Pr<strong>of</strong>essionals, and for Educ<strong>at</strong>ion<br />
majors. A survey <strong>of</strong> speech, language and hearing development<br />
and associ<strong>at</strong>ed disorders. An introduction to the pr<strong>of</strong>essions <strong>of</strong><br />
Speech-Language P<strong>at</strong>hology and Audiology.<br />
1052. SPEECH AND LANGUAGE ACQUISITION. 3 cr. The<br />
development <strong>of</strong> speech in children in the family and the effects <strong>of</strong><br />
culture on language.<br />
2001. ANATOMY, PHYSIOLOGY AND NEUROLOGY. 3 cr. Principles<br />
<strong>of</strong> the an<strong>at</strong>omy and physiology <strong>of</strong> the neurological, respir<strong>at</strong>ory,<br />
phon<strong>at</strong>ory, articul<strong>at</strong>ory, and hearing mechanisms with focus on<br />
normal systems.<br />
2002. SPEECH AND LANGUAGE SCIENCE. 3 cr. The production,<br />
transmission and perception <strong>of</strong> acoustic signals in speech<br />
communic<strong>at</strong>ion; and principles <strong>of</strong> linguistic analysis including<br />
phonology, semantics, morphology, syntax and pragm<strong>at</strong>ics.<br />
2020. BEGINNING SIGN LANGUAGE. 3 cr. An introductory course<br />
in the study <strong>of</strong> American Sign Language (ASL) and Pidgin Sign<br />
English (PSE) with an emphasis on the Deaf Community and<br />
their culture. An understanding <strong>of</strong> some <strong>of</strong> the basic cultural<br />
differences <strong>of</strong> the Deaf and how they rel<strong>at</strong>e to the development<br />
and existence <strong>of</strong> sign languages will be coupled with basic skills<br />
in both ASL and PSE. Non-majors only.<br />
4001. PHONETICS. 3 cr. Correct sound pronunci<strong>at</strong>ion; phonetic<br />
transcription rules through applic<strong>at</strong>ion <strong>of</strong> the Intern<strong>at</strong>ional<br />
Phonetic Alphabet to General American English and other<br />
varieties. Prerequisites SPLP 1013, 1052, 2001, 2002.<br />
4002. DIAGNOSTIC AND TREATMENT PROCEDURES. 3 cr.<br />
Provide students with principles <strong>of</strong> assessment and tre<strong>at</strong>ment<br />
including the instruments, procedures, and report writing skills<br />
utilized in diagnosing and reporting speech, language, and<br />
hearing disorders. Focus is on practical skills development<br />
to administer and score tests or articul<strong>at</strong>ion and language as<br />
well as management <strong>of</strong> communic<strong>at</strong>ively disordered clients.<br />
Prerequisites: SPLP 1013, 1052, 2001, 2002, 4001, 4028, 4033<br />
4004. MULTICULTURAL ISSUES IN CLINICAL SERVICE DELIVERY.<br />
3 cr. Issues rel<strong>at</strong>ed to providing culturally least-biased services to<br />
those with communic<strong>at</strong>ion disorders and differences. Focus is on<br />
theories and methods <strong>of</strong> clinical counseling. Prerequisites: SPLP<br />
1013, 1052, 2001, 2002.<br />
4028. ARTICULATION DISORDERS. 3 cr. Types, causes, symptoms,<br />
and therapy for articul<strong>at</strong>ory defects in speech. Prerequisite: 4017,<br />
4018, or consent <strong>of</strong> instructor.<br />
4033. LANGUAGE PATHOLOGY. 3 cr. Language acquisition,<br />
language disorders <strong>of</strong> reception and expression, and habilit<strong>at</strong>ion<br />
methodologies in learning. Prerequisite: 1052 or consent <strong>of</strong><br />
instructor.<br />
4076. BEGINNING PRACTICUM IN COMMUNICATION DISORDERS.<br />
1-6 cr. Clinical practicum with individuals who are communic<strong>at</strong>ively<br />
challenged. Students will complete the required clock hours with<br />
clients having specific disorders as specified by the instructor.<br />
Prerequisite: approval <strong>of</strong> department head<br />
4077. AUDIOLOGY. 3 cr. The n<strong>at</strong>ure <strong>of</strong> deafness and hard-<strong>of</strong>-hearing<br />
problems. An<strong>at</strong>omy, physiology, and neuroan<strong>at</strong>omy <strong>of</strong> the hearing<br />
mechanism with an introduction to p<strong>at</strong>hology; scope <strong>of</strong> practice.<br />
Prerequisites: SPLP 1013, 1052, 2001, 2002.<br />

skills required to function in a production company: Production<br />

Oper<strong>at</strong>ions, Scene Painting, Sound Oper<strong>at</strong>ions, Costume Shop<br />

1091. ENJOYING THEATRE. 3 cr. Seeks to improve appreci<strong>at</strong>ion<br />
and understanding <strong>of</strong> the<strong>at</strong>re art to include playwriting, acting,<br />
directing, designing (scenery, lighting, costumes and make-up)<br />
and managing. The course gives emphasis to critical observ<strong>at</strong>ion<br />

2007. MAKE-UP. 2 cr. Teaches basic skills <strong>of</strong> make-up design and<br />
applic<strong>at</strong>ion for straight and character roles in the<strong>at</strong>re, television and<br />
