4014. MUSIC EDUCATION WORKSHOP: ADVANCED. 3 cr. A course<br />

designed to instruct teachers and supervisors <strong>of</strong> elementary<br />

music in singing, playing instruments, moving, cre<strong>at</strong>ing,<br />

arranging, and selecting music. (Formerly MSED 411C)<br />

4017. GENERAL MUSIC PROGRAM IN ELEMENTARY AND<br />

SECONDARY SCHOOLS. 3 cr. Detailed consider<strong>at</strong>ion <strong>of</strong> the<br />

general music program, with special <strong>at</strong>tention given to m<strong>at</strong>erials<br />

and methods <strong>of</strong> teaching.<br />

4019. THE MARCHING BAND. 3 cr. Fundamentals organiz<strong>at</strong>ion,<br />

precision drill and pageantry; charting and rehearsal procedures<br />

and musical problems.<br />

4020. DRILL DESIGN TECHNIQUES. 3 cr. A course designed to<br />

provide advanced drill design techniques including music<br />

analysis, interpretive writing, horn placement, drill teaching<br />

techniques, and element correl<strong>at</strong>ion. Prerequisite: MSED 4019 or<br />

equivalent.<br />

4090. CHORAL REPERTOIRE. 3 cr. A survey <strong>of</strong> the choral octavo<br />

liter<strong>at</strong>ure <strong>at</strong> the high school through collegi<strong>at</strong>e level; in<br />

conjunction with selection <strong>of</strong> m<strong>at</strong>erials and programming.<br />

4091. INTRODUCTORY WORKSHOP IN ORFF-SCHULWERK. 3 cr.<br />

Basic Orff-Schulwerk techniques, including body movement,<br />

soprano recorder, percussion, vocal performance, improvis<strong>at</strong>ion,<br />

and arranging.<br />

4092. INTERMEDIATE WORKSHOP IN ORFF-SCHULWERK. 3 cr.<br />

Intermedi<strong>at</strong>e level Orff-Schulwerk techniques, including modal<br />

harmoniz<strong>at</strong>ion, irregular rhythms, alto recorder performances,<br />

and more extensive improvis<strong>at</strong>ion and arranging. Prerequisite:<br />

MSED 4091 or equivalent.<br />

4093. ADVANCED WORKSHOP IN ORFF-SCHULWERK. 3 cr.<br />

Advanced Orff-Schulwerk techniques including original<br />

composition, complex form, movement, and instrumental<br />

arrangements, tenor and bass recorder performances, and<br />

advanced improvis<strong>at</strong>ion. Prerequisite: MSED 4092 or equivalent.<br />

4095. THE USE OF MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS IN GENERAL MUSIC<br />

EDUCATION. 3 cr. A course designed to provide basic playing<br />

ability <strong>of</strong> the following instruments: autoharp, melody bells,<br />

recorder, guitar, piano, dulcimer, and the various Orff melodic<br />

and percussion instruments. Prerequisite: MSED 3022 or 3035 or<br />

equivalent.<br />

4096. THE ADVANCED USE OF MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS<br />

IN GENERAL MUSIC EDUCATION. 3 cr. Course designed<br />

to improve the students playing pr<strong>of</strong>iciency on the following<br />

classroom instruments: guitar, recorder, autoharp, melody bells,<br />

dulcimer, piano, and the various Orff melodic and percussion<br />

instruments. Prerequisite: MSED 4095 or equivalent.<br />

2000. NURSING CONCEPTS. 2 cr. Introduction to nursing concepts,<br />

including school philosophy, objectives, and the curriculum<br />

framework. The major component <strong>of</strong> the framework being the<br />

nursing process, human needs, levels <strong>of</strong> health intervention, and<br />

objectives. For pre-nursing students only in the semester prior to<br />

entering the pr<strong>of</strong>essional program.<br />

2002. TRANSITIONS IN NURSING. 2 cr. An introduction to<br />

pr<strong>of</strong>essional nursing and concepts rel<strong>at</strong>ed to role socializ<strong>at</strong>ion<br />

and transition. Includes clinical/labor<strong>at</strong>ory experience with<br />

emphasis on the nursing process, major nursing theories, and<br />

trends and issues in nursing. Prerequisites: approval <strong>of</strong> the<br />

coordin<strong>at</strong>or; for Licensed Practical Nurses only.<br />

2004. HEALTH ASSESSMENT. 3 cr. Basic techniques essential to the<br />

assessment <strong>of</strong> health st<strong>at</strong>us in the individual across the life span.<br />

Prerequisite: Registr<strong>at</strong>ion or credit in NURS 2005, 2007 or 2002,<br />

2016, 2080, or current Registered Nurse Licensure.<br />

2005. HEALTH INTERVENTION I. 4 cr. Theories and concepts <strong>of</strong><br />

health intervention and their rel<strong>at</strong>ionship to the nursing process.<br />

Emphasis is on health promotion and health maintenance in the<br />

adult with common vari<strong>at</strong>ions across the life span. Prerequisite:<br />

NURS 2000, Registr<strong>at</strong>ion or credit in NURS 2007 and 2004 ,<br />

2016, and 2080.<br />

2007. NURSING SCIENCE PRACTICUM I. 4 cr. Opportunity is given to<br />

practice basic nursing interventions in a variety <strong>of</strong> settings. Focus<br />

<strong>of</strong> care is the individual. Prerequisite: NURS 2000, Registr<strong>at</strong>ion or<br />

credit in NURS 2004, 2005, 2016, and 2080.<br />

2016. COMPUTING FOR NURSES. 1 cr. Fundamentals <strong>of</strong> computer<br />

network usage, drug dosage calcul<strong>at</strong>ions, nursing simul<strong>at</strong>ions,<br />

and hospital management programs. One hour lecture and two<br />

hours labor<strong>at</strong>ory. Prerequisite: CSCI 1070.<br />

2017. CONCEPTS OF NURSING AND HEALTH CARE. 3 cr.<br />

Introduction to pr<strong>of</strong>essional nursing, nursing history, theories,<br />

therapeutic communic<strong>at</strong>ion techniques, and health promotion<br />

throughout the life span. Prerequisite: Registr<strong>at</strong>ion or credit in<br />

NURS 2016.<br />

2020. PROFESSIONAL NURSING CONCEPTS. 3 cr. A transitional<br />

course to advance the registered nurse’s career in the<br />

pr<strong>of</strong>essional role. Prerequisites: Registr<strong>at</strong>ion or credit in NURS<br />

2016; current RN licensure.<br />

2021. DIMENSIONS OF PROFESSIONAL NURSING I. 6 cr.<br />

Applic<strong>at</strong>ion <strong>of</strong> nursing process in meeting basic needs <strong>of</strong><br />

individuals across the life span including clinical experience in a<br />

variety <strong>of</strong> settings. Prerequisites: NURS 2016, 2017.<br />

2022. NURSING PHARMACOTHERAPEUTICS I. 1 cr. Medic<strong>at</strong>ion<br />

dosage and calcul<strong>at</strong>ion and drug administr<strong>at</strong>ion. Prerequisite:<br />

NURS 2016, 2017.<br />

2080. BASIC PRINCIPLES OF PHARMACOLOGY. 3 cr. An<br />

introduction to basic pharmacological principles, therapeutics,<br />

classific<strong>at</strong>ions, effects, and mechanisms <strong>of</strong> drug action. Emphasis<br />

is placed on the applic<strong>at</strong>ion <strong>of</strong> knowledge <strong>of</strong> drugs used in p<strong>at</strong>ient<br />

care settings by health care pr<strong>of</strong>essionals. Prerequisites: Biology<br />

1014, 1015, 1016, and 1017 or 1020. (Formerly PHAR 2080)<br />

3000. NEONATAL HEALTH PROMOTION. 3 cr. Extensive study <strong>of</strong><br />

the newborn’s adjustment to extrauterine life, including clinical<br />

experiences in Level I and II Nurseries. Prerequisites: Completion<br />

<strong>of</strong> NURS 2004, 2005, 2007, 2016, or approval <strong>of</strong> the Director,<br />

School <strong>of</strong> Nursing.<br />

3004. HEALTH INTERVENTION II. 5 cr. Nursing interventions for<br />

commonly occurring problems in adults. Emphasis is on health<br />

maintenance and health restor<strong>at</strong>ion as it applies to adults.<br />

Prerequisites: NURS 2004, 2005, 2007, 2016, 2080; registr<strong>at</strong>ion<br />

or credit in NURS 3005 or 3007.<br />

3005. NURSING SCIENCE PRACTICUM II. 6 cr. Clinical practice<br />

utilizing health maintenance and health restor<strong>at</strong>ion to individuals<br />

who have unmet needs. Clinical experiences will be provided in<br />

a variety <strong>of</strong> agency and community settings. Prerequisites: NURS<br />

2004, 2005, 2007, 2016, 2080; registr<strong>at</strong>ion or credit in NURS<br />

3004.<br />

3007. NURSING PRACTICUM II A. 3 cr. Clinical practice with a focus<br />

on health maintenance and restor<strong>at</strong>ion for adults. Applic<strong>at</strong>ion<br />

<strong>of</strong> the nursing process in providing interventions to individuals.<br />

Prerequisites: NURS 2002, 2004, 2016, 2080, credit or registr<strong>at</strong>ion<br />

in NURS 3008, credit or registr<strong>at</strong>ion in NURS 3004, and current<br />

Practical Nurse Licensure in <strong>Louisiana</strong>, one year <strong>of</strong> acute or longterm<br />

care experience, and approval <strong>of</strong> the Coordin<strong>at</strong>or.
