TRANSFER CREDITS POLICY<br />
1. Students wishing to transfer credits from another<br />
institution to the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Louisiana</strong> <strong>at</strong> <strong>Monroe</strong><br />
(ULM) must file an <strong>of</strong>ficial transcript from th<strong>at</strong><br />
institution with ULM’s Office <strong>of</strong> Recruitment and<br />
Admissions.<br />
2. The extent to which credit earned in other<br />
colleges and universities is accepted toward<br />
fulfilling degree requirements <strong>at</strong> ULM is<br />
determined by the dean <strong>of</strong> the student’s college.<br />
Only work th<strong>at</strong> applies toward the curriculum the<br />
student selects <strong>at</strong> ULM and th<strong>at</strong> demonstr<strong>at</strong>es<br />
s<strong>at</strong>isfactory final grades will be applied to the<br />
student’s degree plan.<br />
3. No credit will be granted or recognized for work<br />
done by a student while under suspension from<br />
any educ<strong>at</strong>ional institution unless the student<br />
meets ULM admissions and appeal requirements<br />
for th<strong>at</strong> enrollment period.<br />
4. The St<strong>at</strong>ewide Student Transfer Guide and<br />
Articul<strong>at</strong>ion System M<strong>at</strong>rices (Board <strong>of</strong> Regents’<br />
E-m<strong>at</strong>rix) indic<strong>at</strong>e transfer equivalences <strong>of</strong><br />
courses among <strong>Louisiana</strong>’s public colleges<br />
and universities and may be accessed through<br />
the Board <strong>of</strong> Regents’ Web page <strong>at</strong> www.<br />
regents.st<strong>at</strong>e.la.us. The m<strong>at</strong>rices are not allinclusive;<br />
there are additional courses th<strong>at</strong><br />
articul<strong>at</strong>e between campuses. Students are<br />
advised to contact their dean’s <strong>of</strong>fice or the<br />
Office <strong>of</strong> Recruitment and Admissions if they are<br />
unclear about whether academic credit <strong>at</strong> other<br />
institutions is transferable.<br />
5. Freshman English courses taken from colleges<br />
and universities where English is not the n<strong>at</strong>ive<br />
language will not transfer to s<strong>at</strong>isfy ULM’s<br />
requirements for English 1001 and 1002. A<br />
student with such credit must take ULM’s English<br />
1001 and 1002 or pass the appropri<strong>at</strong>e CLEP<br />
tests for credit in freshman English. This policy<br />
applies to all intern<strong>at</strong>ional, resident alien, and<br />
U.S. and n<strong>at</strong>uralized citizen students.<br />
6. After students enrolled <strong>at</strong> ULM have earned 60<br />
semester hours <strong>of</strong> non-developmental credits,<br />
they may not transfer credits earned in a twoyear<br />
college to fulfill degree requirements, unless<br />
authorized to do so by their academic dean.<br />
Earned hours/credits refer to those associ<strong>at</strong>ed<br />
with a course in which the student’s final grade is<br />
A, B, C, D, or CR.<br />
7. If the college does not approve a transfer course<br />
for general educ<strong>at</strong>ion credit, the student may<br />
petition the Office <strong>of</strong> Academic Affairs for a<br />
decision.<br />
8. All hours pursued by a student are used in<br />
determining the cumul<strong>at</strong>ive grade point average<br />
<strong>of</strong> th<strong>at</strong> student, and all course work is posted to<br />
th<strong>at</strong> student’s ULM transcript.<br />
9. Transfer Credit Practices <strong>of</strong> Design<strong>at</strong>ed<br />
Educ<strong>at</strong>ional Institutions, by the American<br />
Associ<strong>at</strong>ion <strong>of</strong> Collegi<strong>at</strong>e Registrars and<br />

Admissions Officers, is used as a basis for<br />
determining the accredit<strong>at</strong>ion st<strong>at</strong>us <strong>of</strong> other<br />
institutions. The policies and public<strong>at</strong>ions used<br />
to determine the acceptance <strong>of</strong> credit earned<br />
through nontraditional means and the acceptance<br />
or nonacceptance <strong>of</strong> credits granted by another<br />
institution through nontraditional means (e.g.,<br />
military credit, credit by examin<strong>at</strong>ions, or other<br />
methods) are on file in the Registrar’s Office.<br />

Intern<strong>at</strong>ional Student Programs and Services welcomes<br />
intern<strong>at</strong>ional students and helps them achieve a<br />
successful and positive experience <strong>at</strong> ULM. The social and<br />
cultural enrichment these students bring to our campus is<br />
immeasurable. Intern<strong>at</strong>ional students who have questions<br />

about maintaining student st<strong>at</strong>us, F-1 and J-1 visas,<br />

Intern<strong>at</strong>ional Student Programs and Services<br />
provides inform<strong>at</strong>ion and assistance regarding <strong>University</strong><br />
regul<strong>at</strong>ions, immigr<strong>at</strong>ion, and other m<strong>at</strong>ters. All<br />
intern<strong>at</strong>ional students are required to visit and maintain<br />
contact with the Intern<strong>at</strong>ional Student Advisor as soon as<br />
they arrive on campus.<br />
<strong>Undergradu<strong>at</strong>e</strong> intern<strong>at</strong>ional students must submit<br />
the following applic<strong>at</strong>ion m<strong>at</strong>erials before eligibility for<br />
admission can be determined.<br />
Steps to Admission:<br />
1. APPLICATION: Complete and submit an<br />
undergradu<strong>at</strong>e applic<strong>at</strong>ion and pay the $30<br />
admission fee online <strong>at</strong> www.ulm.edu/apply (a<br />
paper applic<strong>at</strong>ion may also be downloaded and<br />
completed).<br />
2. TRANSCRIPT: Freshman students should<br />
submit an English transl<strong>at</strong>ion <strong>of</strong> their transcript<br />
and original gradu<strong>at</strong>ion certific<strong>at</strong>e examin<strong>at</strong>ion<br />
results. Transfer students should submit English<br />
transl<strong>at</strong>ions <strong>of</strong> transcripts from each university<br />
<strong>at</strong>tended. If the student <strong>at</strong>tended a university<br />
outside the US, he/she must also provide a credit<br />
evalu<strong>at</strong>ion by World Educ<strong>at</strong>ion Services (www.<br />
WES.org) or other accredited evalu<strong>at</strong>ion service.<br />
3. IELTS or TOEFL/SAT or ACT SCORES:<br />
Intern<strong>at</strong>ional students should submit <strong>of</strong>ficial IELTS<br />
or TOEFL scores if the student’s language <strong>of</strong><br />
instruction is not English. (TOEFL code-6482).<br />
Additionally, freshmen intern<strong>at</strong>ionals must submit<br />
<strong>of</strong>ficial SAT (SAT code-6482) or ACT (ACT code-<br />
1598) scores.
