2001. FIRST AID AND CPR. 1 cr. First aid to the victims <strong>of</strong> accidents,<br />

sudden illness, cardiac or respir<strong>at</strong>ory emergencies. First aid and<br />

CPR certific<strong>at</strong>ion granted to those meeting agency requirements.<br />

Two hours labor<strong>at</strong>ory.<br />

2002. STRENGTH TRAINING FOR SCHOOL AGE CHILDREN. 2<br />

cr. This course is designed to enhance the candid<strong>at</strong>e’s ability<br />

to assess and implement safe and appropri<strong>at</strong>e methods in<br />

resistance training programs in the school system for children<br />

and the adolescent in physical educ<strong>at</strong>ion/<strong>at</strong>hletics. Prerequisite:<br />

KINS 2011.<br />

2011. INTRODUCTION TO KINESIOLOGY. 3 cr. Basic understanding<br />

and familiariz<strong>at</strong>ion <strong>of</strong> health, physical educ<strong>at</strong>ion and recre<strong>at</strong>ion as<br />

a pr<strong>of</strong>ession; including historical background, principles, trends,<br />

curriculum and pr<strong>of</strong>essional prepar<strong>at</strong>ion. For Kinesiology majors only.<br />

2020. LIFEGUARD TRAINING. 3 cr. Designed to train and certify an<br />

individual to serve as a non-surf lifeguard and as an aqu<strong>at</strong>ic<br />

facility manager.<br />

2021. CONCEPTS OF PERSONAL WELLNESS. 2 cr. The purpose <strong>of</strong><br />

this course is to provide learning opportunities for the development<br />

<strong>of</strong> conceptual and functional knowledge <strong>of</strong> health-rel<strong>at</strong>ed physical<br />

fitness and the role it plays in the development and maintenance<br />

<strong>of</strong> human wellness. The health-behavior-gap is examined, and<br />

specific emphasis is placed on the individual long-term preventive<br />

and rehabilit<strong>at</strong>ive benefits derived from lifelong particip<strong>at</strong>ion in<br />

physical activity. Prerequisite: Kinesiology majors only.<br />

2033. WATER SAFETY INSTRUCTION. 3 cr. Qualifies individuals<br />

to teach and certify American Red Cross Aqu<strong>at</strong>ic courses.<br />

Prerequisite: KINS 2020.<br />

2041. PERSONAL AND COMMUNITY HEALTH. 3 cr. An orient<strong>at</strong>ion<br />

course in health which deals with nutrition, stress, exercise,<br />

diseases and their prevention.<br />

2053. SELF DEFENSE II. 1 cr. Continued instruction and practice in the<br />

various aspects <strong>of</strong> self defense.<br />

3005. TECHNIQUES IN GROUP EXERCISE. 2 cr. This course is<br />

designed to examine current trends and techniques used in the<br />

field <strong>of</strong> group exercise. Prerequisite: KINS 2011. Kinesiology<br />

majors only.<br />

3006. INTRODUCTION TO TEACHING HEALTH AND PHYSICAL<br />

EDUCATION. 3 cr. Clinical based course where physical<br />

educ<strong>at</strong>ion majors examine teaching physical educ<strong>at</strong>ion in diverse<br />

settings. Candid<strong>at</strong>es will examine how students and teachers<br />

spend their time during physical educ<strong>at</strong>ion and the impact it has<br />

on learning. Prerequisite: KINS 2011.<br />

3008. FITNESS AND SPORT FACILITY MANAGEMENT. 3 cr. This<br />

course is designed to provide learning experiences in the<br />

administr<strong>at</strong>ive tasks <strong>of</strong> planning new facilities, renov<strong>at</strong>ing and<br />

maintaining existing sport and fitness facilities. An understanding<br />

in facilities, their design, and management will be gained<br />

through field trips, speakers, and standard classroom m<strong>at</strong>erial.<br />

Prerequisite: KINS 2011.<br />

3012. EXERCISE SCIENCE PHYSIOLOGY I. 3 cr. Acute and chronic<br />

physiological changes in response to exercise. Emphasis on the<br />

practical applic<strong>at</strong>ion <strong>of</strong> exercise training for health, fitness and<br />

performance. Focus will be directed toward energy for physical<br />

activity, energy delivery, utiliz<strong>at</strong>ion and enhancement <strong>of</strong> energy<br />

capacity.<br />

3018. FITNESS ASSESSMENT TECHNIQUES. 3 cr. This course is<br />

designed to provide the exercise pr<strong>of</strong>essional with the necessary<br />

cognitive and labor<strong>at</strong>ory experiences essential for developing<br />

safe and accur<strong>at</strong>e physical fitness testing practices. Prerequisite:<br />

KINS 2011. Kinesiology majors only.<br />

3019. INTRODUCTION TO MOTOR LEARNING. 3 cr. The learning <strong>of</strong><br />

motor skills to facilit<strong>at</strong>e the implementing <strong>of</strong> appropri<strong>at</strong>e str<strong>at</strong>egies<br />

and techniques for instructional, training, and rehabilit<strong>at</strong>ion<br />

applic<strong>at</strong>ions. Prerequisite: KINS 2011. Kinesiology majors only.<br />

3021. SAFETY EDUCATION. 3 cr. Enhances the understanding <strong>of</strong><br />

safety and delivery <strong>of</strong> age-appropri<strong>at</strong>e safety educ<strong>at</strong>ion.<br />

Prerequisite: KINS 2041.<br />

3022. SEXUALITY EDUCATION. 3 cr. Enhances the understanding<br />

<strong>of</strong> human sexuality and delivery <strong>of</strong> age-appropri<strong>at</strong>e sexuality<br />

educ<strong>at</strong>ion. Prerequisite: KINS 2041.<br />

3025. DRIVER EDUCATION AND TRAFFIC SAFETY. 3 cr.<br />

Administr<strong>at</strong>ive problems and policies, instructional methods and<br />

m<strong>at</strong>erials, accident causes and prevention, and content <strong>of</strong> a high<br />

school course in driver educ<strong>at</strong>ion. Prerequisite: junior standing.<br />

3033. ACTIVITIES FOR ELEMENTARY SCHOOL. 3 cr. M<strong>at</strong>erials,<br />

techniques and methods <strong>of</strong> teaching physical educ<strong>at</strong>ion in<br />

elementary schools. Sophomore level and above.
