Examines the management functions within and applied to the<br />
hospitality and tourism industries. Covers food services, lodging,<br />

3007. HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT. 3 cr. Examines<br />
organiz<strong>at</strong>ional human resource management issues such<br />
as manpower planning, recruitment, selection, appraisal,<br />
compens<strong>at</strong>ion, transfer and promotion, safety; and other<br />

3008. COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS. 3 cr. Provides an in-depth<br />

compens<strong>at</strong>ion and benefit issues including corpor<strong>at</strong>e policy, job<br />

3009. OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT. 3 cr. Examines the production<br />

3015. STAFFING. 3 cr. Examines various recruiting and selection<br />
systems including personnel planning, recruitment, selection,<br />

3020. HUMAN RESOURCES DEVELOPMENT. 3 cr. Studies effective<br />
training and development systems, str<strong>at</strong>egies and processes <strong>at</strong><br />
the organiz<strong>at</strong>ional and an individual level. Studies methods and<br />
media used in identifying, assessing, addressing, and monitoring<br />
Human Resource Development (HRD) needs. Prerequisite:<br />

4002. INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MANAGEMENT. 3 cr. Explores<br />
the functions <strong>of</strong> management th<strong>at</strong> are affected by global sociocultural,<br />
economic, legal, and political environments. Examines<br />
how the functions <strong>of</strong> management may need to be adapted for<br />
the global cultural, economic, legal, and political environments.<br />
Emphasizes global organiz<strong>at</strong>ional dynamics and str<strong>at</strong>egy.<br />

4009. STRATEGIC MANAGEMENT. 3 cr. Examines business<br />
policy and str<strong>at</strong>egy formul<strong>at</strong>ion, implement<strong>at</strong>ion, and control<br />
from an overall management perspective. Requires str<strong>at</strong>egy<br />
recommend<strong>at</strong>ions based on an integr<strong>at</strong>ive analysis <strong>of</strong> an<br />
organiz<strong>at</strong>ion's resources, capabilities and competencies, as well<br />
as external forces, trends, and influences th<strong>at</strong> shape competition.<br />

Provides in-depth study <strong>of</strong> contemporary personnel and human<br />

benefits, human resources development, health and safety, and<br />
employee and rel<strong>at</strong>ions. Prerequisite: MGMT 3001 or 3005 or<br />

4013. SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT. 3 cr. Examines the integr<strong>at</strong>ion<br />
and coordin<strong>at</strong>ion <strong>of</strong> activities, such as purchasing, outsourcing,<br />
m<strong>at</strong>erials management, logistics, supplier selection, and global<br />
sourcing to cre<strong>at</strong>e an efficient and effective flow <strong>of</strong> m<strong>at</strong>erials.<br />

analysis and improvement. Addresses analytical methods for<br />

The <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Louisiana</strong> <strong>at</strong> <strong>Monroe</strong> is a member <strong>of</strong><br />
the <strong>Louisiana</strong> Universities Marine Consortium (LUMCON)<br />
and <strong>of</strong>fers summer courses <strong>at</strong> the LUMCON DeFelice<br />
Marine Center in Cocodrie, <strong>Louisiana</strong>. Students must<br />
first apply to LUMCON. Once accepted into the summer<br />
program, the student then registers for credit <strong>at</strong> the<br />
<strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Louisiana</strong> <strong>at</strong> <strong>Monroe</strong>. Room and board<br />
expenses <strong>at</strong> LUMCON and applicable labor<strong>at</strong>ory fees<br />

to chemical, geological, physical and biological processes in<br />

humans and the marine environment. Prerequisite: Introductory<br />

2002. INTRODUCTION TO MARINE ZOOLOGY. 4 cr. Field and<br />
labor<strong>at</strong>ory survey <strong>of</strong> marine animals, particularly those <strong>of</strong> the<br />
<strong>Louisiana</strong> Gulf Coast; classific<strong>at</strong>ion, morphology, physiology, and<br />
ecology. Prerequisites: Introductory biology course and lab or<br />
permission <strong>of</strong> instructor. Four weeks. LUMCON Summer course;<br />

4002. WETLAND VEGETATION. 3 cr. Identific<strong>at</strong>ion, taxonomy and<br />
distribution <strong>of</strong> wetland plants. Plant adapt<strong>at</strong>ions, veget<strong>at</strong>ion<br />
analysis methods, marsh types, community processes and<br />
coastal wetland restor<strong>at</strong>ion will also be discussed. Prerequisites:<br />
junior or senior standing or permission <strong>of</strong> instructor. Three weeks.<br />

4011. MARINE FIELD ECOLOGY. 4 cr. Rel<strong>at</strong>ionships <strong>of</strong> marine and<br />
estuarine organisms to environmental factors; interactions among<br />
organisms; ecological processes <strong>of</strong> energy and m<strong>at</strong>erials flow;<br />
field studies <strong>of</strong> communities and ecosystems <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Louisiana</strong><br />
coastal zone. Prerequisites: BIOL 1020, 1021; 3030 or 3032;<br />
CHEM 1007, 1009; permission <strong>of</strong> instructor. Four weeks.<br />

4021. CORAL REEF ECOLOGY. 3 cr. An introductory, interdisciplinary<br />
course in the ecology <strong>of</strong> coral reef ecosystems, with an emphasis<br />
on ecological and evolutionary processes. Aspects <strong>of</strong> physical<br />
oceanography, chemical ecology, and geology will be included.<br />
Prerequisites: eight hours <strong>of</strong> biology or permission <strong>of</strong> instructor.<br />
One and a half weeks <strong>at</strong> the <strong>Louisiana</strong> Universities Marine<br />
Consortium, and one and a half weeks in Florida. LUMCON<br />

4051. MARINE INVERTEBRATE ECOLOGY. 3 cr. In-depth study <strong>of</strong><br />
the interaction <strong>of</strong> marine invertebr<strong>at</strong>es with their environment.<br />
Emphasis will be placed on understanding the functional role<br />
<strong>of</strong> invertebr<strong>at</strong>es and how the environment shapes morphology,<br />
physiology, and behavior. Not intended to be a comprehensive<br />
study <strong>of</strong> invertebr<strong>at</strong>e taxa. Prerequisites: BIOL 3030; MNSC<br />
