emphasis on rhetorical str<strong>at</strong>egies and the conventions <strong>of</strong><br />

4046. ADVANCED PROFESSIONAL WRITING AND<br />

COMMUNICATION. 3 cr. Theory, use, and cre<strong>at</strong>ion <strong>of</strong> advanced<br />

pr<strong>of</strong>essional documents. Focus on writing and communic<strong>at</strong>ion<br />

outcomes based on audience needs. Instruction in various<br />

areas <strong>of</strong> pr<strong>of</strong>essional communic<strong>at</strong>ion and prepar<strong>at</strong>ion for the<br />

job market. Prerequisite: registr<strong>at</strong>ion in or completion <strong>of</strong> any<br />

upper-level writing class or permission <strong>of</strong> the department head.<br />

Credit for BUSN 3005 and ENGL 4046 cannot be used to fulfill<br />

requirements for the Bachelor <strong>of</strong> Business Administr<strong>at</strong>ion (BBA)<br />

degree without permission <strong>of</strong> the CBA.<br />

0073. PRONUNCIATION. 2 cr. The first <strong>of</strong> two English pronunci<strong>at</strong>ion<br />

courses for non-n<strong>at</strong>ive speakers with emphasis on phonetics,<br />

rhythm, stress and inton<strong>at</strong>ion and the fe<strong>at</strong>ures <strong>of</strong> English<br />

phrasing. Students will receive a grade <strong>of</strong> A, B, C, or NC.<br />

0074. BEGINNING ORAL PROFICIENCY. 3 cr. A beginning English<br />

oral pr<strong>of</strong>iciency course for non-n<strong>at</strong>ive speakers. Development<br />

<strong>of</strong> basic convers<strong>at</strong>ion skills utilizing the language labor<strong>at</strong>ory,<br />

classroom and extended activities. Students will receive a grade<br />

0081. LOW INTERMEDIATE READING AND WRITING. 5 cr. The first<br />

<strong>of</strong> two intermedi<strong>at</strong>e English reading and writing courses for nonn<strong>at</strong>ive<br />

speakers. Prerequisite: A minimum <strong>of</strong> “C” in ESL-0071<br />

or placement based on English competency tests given by the<br />

Department <strong>of</strong> Foreign Languages. Students will receive a grade<br />

<strong>of</strong> A, B, C, or NC.<br />

0082. LOW INTERMEDIATE STRUCTURE. 5 cr. The first <strong>of</strong> two<br />

intermedi<strong>at</strong>e English structure courses for non-n<strong>at</strong>ive speakers.<br />

Prerequisite: A minimum <strong>of</strong> “C” in ESL-0072 or placement based<br />

on English competency tests given by the Department <strong>of</strong> Foreign<br />

0083. PRONUNCIATION. 2 cr. The second <strong>of</strong> two English<br />

pronunci<strong>at</strong>ion courses for non-n<strong>at</strong>ive speakers. A continu<strong>at</strong>ion<br />

<strong>of</strong> ESL-0073. Focuses on increasing accuracy in pronunci<strong>at</strong>ion.<br />

Addresses individual needs. Prerequisite: A minimum <strong>of</strong> “C” in<br />

ESL-0073 or placement based on English competency tests<br />

given by the Department <strong>of</strong> Foreign Languages. Students will<br />

receive a grade <strong>of</strong> A, B, C, or NC.<br />

0084. LOW INTERMEDIATE ORAL PROFICIENCY. 3 cr. The first<br />

<strong>of</strong> two intermedi<strong>at</strong>e oral pr<strong>of</strong>iciency courses for non-n<strong>at</strong>ive<br />

speakers. Emphasis on fluency and communic<strong>at</strong>ion skills in<br />

real life academic and non-academic contexts. Prerequisite:<br />

A minimum <strong>of</strong> “C” in ESL-0074 or placement based on<br />

English competency tests given by the Department <strong>of</strong> Foreign<br />

Languages. Students will receive a grade <strong>of</strong> A, B, C, or NC.<br />

0091. INTERMEDIATE READING AND WRITING. 5 cr. The second<br />

<strong>of</strong> two intermedi<strong>at</strong>e English reading and writing courses for nonn<strong>at</strong>ive<br />

speakers. Prerequisite: A minimum <strong>of</strong> “C” in ESL-0081<br />

or placement based on English competency tests given by the<br />
