These data only cover drugrelated illnesses resulting in admission to a hospital. Further, data are only availablefor conditions directly attributable to drug use and do not include most conditionswhere drug use may be a contributing factor but where the link is not direct andimmediate. Lastly, identification of Indigenous patients is incomplete andcompleteness varies across jurisdictions. The AIHW has advised that only data forQueensland, WA, SA and the NT are considered to be acceptable for analyticalpurposes. Data for NSW, Victoria, Tasmania and the ACT were withheld by AIHWdue to high rates of under-identification of Indigenous people (see chapter 2 andappendix 4 for more information). The limitations of using hospital statistics arediscussed in appendix 3.Based on data from four jurisdictions (Queensland, WA, SA and the NT), in2004-05 (table 8A.3.1):8.34 OVERCOMINGINDIGENOUSDISADVANTAGE 2007
