all schools, Cleves faces the challenges of a chang<strong>in</strong>g educational world and all the implications of<br />

that <strong>in</strong> a school that has such a wi<strong>de</strong> range and diversity of children. Over 82% of pupils on roll<br />

come from a variety of ethnic m<strong>in</strong>ority communities and have a first language that is not English.<br />

The children speak 29 different languages; other than English the ma<strong>in</strong> first languages are Bengali,<br />

Urdu and a variety of African languages. Cleves is committed to provid<strong>in</strong>g good primary practice<br />

that is flexible and holistic <strong>in</strong> meet<strong>in</strong>g the needs of the diverse school community. Children work<br />

Contrary to the established UK system of one teacher <strong>in</strong> charge of a class of about 30 children and<br />

Learn<strong>in</strong>g Support Assistants provid<strong>in</strong>g one-to-one support for <strong>in</strong>dividual children, the staff<strong>in</strong>g<br />

structure at Cleves is flexible: multi-discipl<strong>in</strong>ary teams of teachers, nursery nurses and teach<strong>in</strong>g<br />

assistants are led by Assistant Head Teachers to facilitate the learn<strong>in</strong>g of all children. This creative<br />

arrangement benefits everyone.<br />
