The school follows the curriculum prepared by the Oxford University and some locally prepared<br />

The curriculum is the same for all children with slight modifications for disabled children. For<br />
boar<strong>de</strong>rs, there are even<strong>in</strong>g classes where children with hear<strong>in</strong>g impairment are taught the Punjab<br />
Textbook Board curriculum (<strong>in</strong> Urdu) and others follow the Oxford curriculum. The Board of<br />
Intermediate and Secondary Education holds special exam<strong>in</strong>ations for children with hear<strong>in</strong>g<br />
impairment based on the curriculum prepared by the Punjab Textbook Board. No such facility is<br />
available <strong>in</strong> the Oxford curriculum <strong>in</strong> Pakistan. Hifz-e-Quran is a compulsory component of the<br />

It is important to recognize that research <strong>in</strong>dicates that it is less costly to provi<strong>de</strong> education for<br />
disabled children <strong>in</strong> ma<strong>in</strong>stream <strong>in</strong>clusive schools rather than establish<strong>in</strong>g special schools. The<br />
additional/marg<strong>in</strong>al cost to transform ma<strong>in</strong>stream schools to <strong>in</strong>clusive ones is m<strong>in</strong>imal and<br />
affordable for the government.<br />
2.11 Amerika, W. Hen<strong>de</strong>rson Inclusion School<br />
Algemeen<br />
De dr William Hen<strong>de</strong>rson Inclusion school is een "public school" <strong>in</strong> Boston, die zich al 25 jaar een<br />
Inclusion school noemt en volledig <strong>in</strong>clusief is. <strong>Het</strong> motto <strong>van</strong> <strong>de</strong> school is “we’re better together”. De<br />
stu<strong>de</strong>nten komen uit verschillen<strong>de</strong> etnische, taalkundige achtergron<strong>de</strong>n en hebben verschillen<strong>de</strong><br />
mogelijkhe<strong>de</strong>n. Een <strong>de</strong>r<strong>de</strong> is <strong>van</strong> <strong>de</strong> populatie is wit, een <strong>de</strong>r<strong>de</strong> African-American en <strong>de</strong> rest Aziatisch<br />
en Lat<strong>in</strong>-American. Een <strong>de</strong>r<strong>de</strong> heeft beperk<strong>in</strong>gen <strong>van</strong> zeer groot tot licht. Er zitten 24 k<strong>in</strong><strong>de</strong>ren <strong>in</strong> een<br />
klas en daar<strong>van</strong> zijn er gemid<strong>de</strong>ld 5 die behoorlijke beperk<strong>in</strong>gen hebben. Hen<strong>de</strong>rson School is een<br />
<strong>van</strong> <strong>de</strong> top achiev<strong>in</strong>g schools <strong>in</strong> the state.<br />
Missie<br />
De dr William W. Hen<strong>de</strong>rson Inclusion School dient k<strong>in</strong><strong>de</strong>ren <strong>van</strong> <strong>de</strong> vroege k<strong>in</strong><strong>de</strong>rjaren tot hun 12 e .<br />
Wij zijn een <strong>in</strong>clusieve school. Stu<strong>de</strong>nten met een handicap leren <strong>in</strong> het algemeen on<strong>de</strong>rwijs samen<br />
met hun 'non- disabled' leeftijdsgenoten. Docenten en on<strong>de</strong>rsteunend personeel werken samen om te<br />
helpen alle k<strong>in</strong><strong>de</strong>ren leren en te slagen op een hoog niveau. De Hen<strong>de</strong>rson <strong>in</strong>clusieve school heeft als<br />
motto “samen zijn we beter”. Leraren, bestuur<strong>de</strong>rs, staf en on<strong>de</strong>rsteunend personeel werken samen<br />
om zo <strong>in</strong>clusief mogelijk te zijn <strong>in</strong> het bie<strong>de</strong>n <strong>van</strong> on<strong>de</strong>rwijs en <strong>de</strong> leerl<strong>in</strong>g te on<strong>de</strong>rsteunen. De school<br />
viert dat "...we verschillend zijn, soms een an<strong>de</strong>re taal spreken en allemaal onze eigen “speciale”<br />
on<strong>de</strong>rwijsbehoeften hebben". Door <strong>de</strong> schoolbre<strong>de</strong> <strong>in</strong>clusieve gedachte streeft <strong>de</strong> school ernaar<br />
