may be able to own a system of your own for the price of renting a
hotels system just once.
In any scenario, make sure you test whatever audio system you
choose to use in advance. No one enjoys last minute audio failures
or challenges, including your speaker and certainly your audience
members.
Microphones
A PA system is worthless without microphones, so you will need to
have these on hand as well. The type of microphone you choose is
also an important consideration. Some speakers will like to move
about the stage, emphasizing their words with pantomimes and
sweeping gestures. Small lapel mics and lavalier microphones are
the ideal option for this type of person. Some speakers, on the other
hand, may stand at a podium and won't want to be wearing a mic.
Make sure to talk to your speaker to determine what they would
prefer.
The speaker isn't the only one who will be using a microphone.
Many events will have a question and answer period, so it's
important to have a microphone available for the audience as well.
When someone asks a question, you'll want everyone to be able to
hear it so the speaker doesn't have to constantly repeat what
someone said. This microphone can be set up on a stand or passed
around by a staff member.
Remember, also, that many microphones will run on batteries. This
is especially true for any sort of wireless microphone. Make sure to
check the batteries in each one and keep a few fresh batteries on
hand just in case. In addition to extra batteries, you should have a
few backup microphones in the event that one of them simply fails
for no real reason.
