Chapter 5:
At The Event — How To Knock ‘em Dead
And Annihilate Expectations
very successful REIA speaking event requires a fair amount of
work. While the initial planning stages are important, your
work is far from over once the event starts. A good event has a
certain effortless flow to it. Every element leads into the next and
builds to a peak of excitement, which results in a buying frenzy.
This doesn't happen on its own; it requires a careful orchestration by
the people running the event—ALL the people running the event.
Make sure all staff and volunteers are on the same page and have the
same goal in mind.
The event itself will determine if all of the time spent in the
planning stages will pay off. No matter how carefully you may have
considered every single detail, what happens when the audience is in
the room will make or break the event. One seemingly insignificant
mistake can quickly ruin the flow, which will result in a
disappointed audience that simply wants to leave. This chapter will
help you understand how to successfully pull off the event and what
you'll need to do during it.
An Overview of Success
I've attended a lot of REIA events, both as an audience member and
as a speaker. Some of them have been absolutely amazing while
others were a complete disaster. What I've realized is these
successful events all seem to share a few common similarities. This
isn't to say every successful event was exactly the same, simply that
the leaders knew what they were doing.
