RUNNING A SUCCESSFUL REIA MEETING
A good event will follow a certain formula. Timing is one of the
most important elements of this formula because everything is
building to a specific point. Just as with a movie, if the event takes
too long to reach the dramatic climax, your audience will lose
interest.
This is the basic formula for a successful event:
The Introduction Phase
The introduction phase is important because it sets the stage for the
event. Some of the attendees may be unfamiliar with the group, the
topic, or even the whole concept of investing. Before you can bring
out a speaker who will give a detailed presentation, you have to lay
the groundwork.
Early Information
Some speakers will give a presentation which covers a very specific
sort of niche. To understand investing in notes, for example, the
audience will need to know a bit about how notes play into the
current real estate market. It's important to keep the information
simple and not cover anything your speaker will be covering.
This is also the period during which other speakers will give their
presentation. Every REIA speaking event should have a keynote
speaker. This is the person the audience is there to see. Some larger
multi-day events will have a number of different speakers and they
should all go on before the main act.
Introducing the Speaker
One mistake I've seen REIA groups make is failing to properly
introduce the speaker. This is an important element because it will
build excitement and create a certain framework for the speaker's
presentation. More on this in a minute.
