RUNNING A SUCCESSFUL REIA MEETING
When you hold regular meetings, have new attendees fill out a new
member form which asks for this information. Also, if you don't
have this information from your existing members, get it from them
as they sign in for the meeting. Sometimes all you have to do is ask
for it. Offering an incentive such as regular coupons or discounts is
one way which businesses of all types have built their list of cell
phone numbers.
Events are an even greater resource for this. Since many of the
people attending the event may not yet be members of your group,
you'll want to take advantage of this opportunity. Simply make
filling out the form a part of the event. You can make it a
requirement for purchasing tickets, or, once again, offer some sort of
incentive.
Cellphones are arguably even more personal than an email address.
While people will check their emails at certain times of the day, they
will receive text messages and phone calls 24 hours a day regardless
of where they are or what they're doing. This means it can be very
easy to annoy someone by constantly sending out messages. I
wouldn't send out more than one text per month. Used sparingly, it
works great. Used too much, you end up ticking off good members
of your group. It's easy to overdo this, so avoid the temptation to
send too many text messages. Remember, the purpose is to keep
them excited and remind them of the event.
Cell phone information is used for what is known as "Text Blasting"
and "Voice Blasting." This list of numbers can get to be quite long,
and it would be impossible to send out messages one by one. There
are a variety of different services that will allow you to create one
message and send it out to the entire group. This can be either a text
message or a prerecorded voice message which can be sent to every
number on the list with the click of a button. Simply searching
Google for "Voice Broadcasting" will reveal a number of different
options.
