Contract
LARRY GOINS AND SHAUN MCCLOSKEY
The contract is one of the most important things you need for every
single speaking event. There is no way to tell what might go wrong
and as Murphy’s Law suggests, what can go wrong will go wrong.
Experience has proven to me that it is always better to plan ahead
and avoid potential miscommunications along the way. The last
thing you need to deal with is a speaker showing up claiming that
you promised to provide something which you expected them to
bring. Since the contract outlines every last detail, you can simply
refer back to it. As a binding legal agreement, there is no way they
can argue.
The contract will also need to outline any consequences if the
speaker fails to follow the agreement. How severe these
consequences are will be up to you. Try to avoid the urge to include
huge monetary penalties, because it will cause the speaker to think
twice about agreeing to it.
If the speaker has been doing this for a while, they may already have
a contract they can send to you. As with any contract, make sure to
read and understand it before signing.
If your speaker doesn't have a contract then you can either search for
one online or reach out to us and we'll get you one
(help@lifeonaire.com or Kandas@LarryGoins.com). Most REIA
groups are well networked, and many of them will share what they
use with you, or of course a lawyer can write one up for you. No
matter what you choose to do, however, never book a speaker
without having something in writing so that both parties know what
they're agreeing to.
Some of the most important aspects of a contract are:
1. Date, location, and time of the event.
2. Product specifics
