We also wish to acknowledge the following persons who translated the plant disease descriptions
into either Spanish, Interlingua or French:
1) The Spanish translations were made by various members of the Caribbean
Division of the American Phytopathological Society under the supervision
of Mr. Benjamen Waite and Dr. Jos6 Nolla.
2) Interlingua translations were prepared by Dr. Frank EsterhillDirector of
the Interlingua Institute (P.O. Box 126 Canal Station-New York, New York
10013) and reviewed for correctness and international character by members
of the Union Mundial pro Interlingua.
3) French translations were made by Henri G6nreux,Louis-Joseph Coulombe,
Denis Lachance, Pierre Duval, P~al Pelletier, Omer Beaudoin, Roland
Loiselle, Lionel Dessureaux, Claude Aub6, Camillien Gagnon, Jean-Marc
Girard and Richard Cayouette, members of the Soci~t6 de Protection des
Plantes du Quebec under the guidance and coordination of Albert Payette,
Jacquelin Santerre and Pierre Thibodeau.
Appreciation is expressed to the three agencies, namely the American Phytopathological
Society, United States Agency for International Development and the Agricultural Research
Service, U. S. Department of Agriculture which cooperated in sponsoring the
project. Special mention should be made of the contributions of W. Q. Loegering who, as
chairman of the International Cooperation Committee of APS in 1962, recognized the need
for better communication among the world's plant pathologists and suggested that a type
of plant disease thesaurus might be helpful; T. van der Zwet,chairman in 1971, who provided
effort and help in initiating the program; Charles Yang, for his exceptional cooperation;
Mr. Baburam Sharma of the Royal Nepalese Embassy and Dr. Lekh Batra of ARS,
