1) The Spanish translations were made by various members <strong>of</strong> the Caribbean<br />

Division <strong>of</strong> the American Phytopathological Society under the supervision<br />

<strong>of</strong> Mr. Benjamen Waite and Dr. Jos6 Nolla.<br />

2) Interlingua translations were prepared by Dr. Frank EsterhillDirector <strong>of</strong><br />

the Interlingua Institute (P.O. Box 126 Canal Station-New York, New York<br />

10013) and reviewed for correctness and international character by members<br />

<strong>of</strong> the Union Mundial pro Interlingua.<br />

3) French translations were made by Henri G6nreux,Louis-Joseph Coulombe,<br />

Denis Lachance, Pierre Duval, P~al Pelletier, Omer Beaudoin, Roland<br />

Loiselle, Lionel Dessureaux, Claude Aub6, Camillien Gagnon, Jean-Marc<br />

Girard and Richard Cayouette, members <strong>of</strong> the Soci~t6 de Protection des<br />

Plantes du Quebec under the guidance and coordination <strong>of</strong> Albert Payette,<br />

Jacquelin Santerre and Pierre Thibodeau.<br />

Appreciation is expressed to the three agencies, namely the American Phytopathological<br />

Society, United States Agency for International Development and the Agricultural Research<br />

Service, U. S. Department <strong>of</strong> Agriculture which cooperated in sponsoring the<br />

project. Special mention should be made <strong>of</strong> the contributions <strong>of</strong> W. Q. Loegering who, as<br />

chairman <strong>of</strong> the International Cooperation Committee <strong>of</strong> APS in 1962, recognized the need<br />

for better communication among the world's <strong>plant</strong> pathologists and suggested that a type<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>plant</strong> disease thesaurus might be helpful; T. van der Zwet,chairman in 1971, who provided<br />

effort and help in initiating the program; Charles Yang, for his exceptional cooperation;<br />

Mr. Baburam Sharma <strong>of</strong> the Royal Nepalese Embassy and Dr. Lekh Batra <strong>of</strong> ARS,<br />

USDA for their generous help with the languages based on Sanskrit; and to all <strong>of</strong> the <strong>plant</strong><br />

pathologists who permitted us to reproduce their color tra.qraiencies.<br />
