Töitschu una nuova dignità ed un nuovo prestigio, condizione che non
può che essere salutare.

On behalf of the Regional government and myself, let me welcome you to this convention.
It is of paramount importance that representatives from language minorities
meet to strengthen their resolve, revive old friendships, share common problems and
launch new projects for the future. These are however also the most appropriate venues
to count ourselves and see where we stand. How healthy is our native tongue, what strategies
can be put to work to reassert our linguistic identities and stem pressures to conform
and to see what opportunities are there to revitalise one’s own native tongue.
Interregional projects lend themselves ideally to this drive. They enable stakeholders to
create an information and cooperation network, with windfall results for the Walser
language and culture, much endengered as they are. This meeting cannot forego a scientific
approach, yet I fully share the view of the organisers, to elect as its main goal the
stock-taking of all available resources: human, scientific, bibliographical, and so on. It is
an indispensable starting point for all future revitalisation work.
