Hand in hand with the project Walser Alps the Union is planning a host of additional activities,
like:
• Networking libraries;
• Drawing up an annotated bibliography on Walser topics;
• Setting up a museum network to access a virtual museum;
• Drawing up a manual for the youth, connecting them with our past;
• Setting up an information centre for all questions relating to the Walsers;
The following action plan has been devised specially for research and support of the
language of the Walsers:
• Digitizing and distribution of Walser language courses;
• Drawing up an annotated Walser bibliography on the topic of place names, possibly
with a choice of common Walser-like countryside names;
• Drawing up a comparative, common word list of 1,000 to 2,000 basic words from the
rural, agrarian environment from chosen Walser dialects under the working title:
“Work, Play, Leisure”. This project will at first appear as a data-bank, but could later
on be enriched to become a sort of “cultural lexicon” (Cfr. “Buildings”) and thus contribute
to save the traditional but waning Walser way of life.
As you can see, the International Walser Union and the Walserdeutsch are doing
their utmost to help you solve your problems, so help yourselves!
