The internal analysis of the galvanic process trains the awareness for problems and leads toa critical reflection.All in- and outgoing material flows should be recorded as detailed as possible.The following question should be answered:How is the consistency of the data?What is the optimum rinsing criterium?Where is water used and how much rinsing water is used?Where are the biggest volumes of chemicals in the process?When and why are concentrates discharged?Following data sources are relevant in practice (Table 3):Data sourceWaterChemicalsCalculation of water from the accounting department, meters and recordsAccounting department, recordsTab. 3: Data sources for the description of material flowsThe recorded mass flows over a representative period of time are entered in a data sheet.From these, specific consumptions are calculated. Therefore the throughput of the parts hasto be recorded. In or<strong>der</strong> to calculate specific indicators is it necessary to record the surfaceareas put through. The surface related consumption of water and chemicals are essentialinstruments for the localisation of measures to reduce consumption.Additional information about existing process water flows out of the galvanic line to wastewater treatment will be collected. These data are the basics for the further proceeding andreference for later comparisons.The evaluation of the current situation should finally lead to the following results: Transparency of the whole galvanic process including the waste water treatment interms of the existing material flows and their relevance of waste Localising of the main source of relevant material losses Localising of processes with a high demand of rinsing Localising of process baths with a high dumping frequencySurface related data about consumption and the concentration of chemicals are importantindicators for the optimisation. On the one hand they are basic information for the dailycontrolling and on the other hand they are basics for the analysis of problems and options14
