Summary of Signature Content 315.04<br />

The content of a graphic signature is the<br />

message contained in the signature typography,<br />

and the message may vary. For example:<br />

• In permanent media such as stationery, signs,<br />

and vehicles, the graphic signature contains<br />

the communicative name of a business—the<br />

informal name used in copy and conversation.<br />

The Company’s communicative name, “<strong>GE</strong>,”<br />

no longer includes the misleading name<br />

“Electric,” which now relates to only a few of our<br />

businesses. (Note: Our legal name, “General<br />

Electric Company,” is still used for legal purposes.)<br />

For the communicative name of each of our<br />

major businesses, “<strong>GE</strong>” is combined with a<br />

simple, easily understood term describing that<br />

business’s primary competence, and organizational<br />

terms are eliminated. For example:<br />

<strong>GE</strong> Appliances<br />

<strong>GE</strong> Capital Services<br />

<strong>GE</strong> Plastics<br />

<strong>GE</strong> Transportation Systems<br />

• In promotional media such as packaging,<br />

the signature may contain the name of the product.<br />

•In advertising, the signature must contain the<br />

<strong>GE</strong> slogan “We bring good things to life.” The<br />

slogan may be used in the signoff signature,<br />

- in any advertising, by itself<br />

- in business-to-business advertising, with the<br />

component or affiliate name<br />

- in consumer or consumer trade advertising, with the<br />

name of the product or service<br />
