What are the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS)? The Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) is now the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). USCIS provides immigration services (e.g., citizenship, asylum, lawful permanent residency, employment authorization, refugee status, inter-country adoptions, replacement immigration documents, etc.). Can documents from USCIS and Section Codes be used to determine eligibility? When a non-citizen presents a USCIS document, the EW must verify the USCIS status through the Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements (SAVE) system. USCIS documents and Section Codes are used only as a tool to determine eligibility for CalWORKs. The following is a list of USCIS documents and Section Codes in which an applicant/participant is not eligible to CalWORKs; however, upon review, he/she may qualify.
