How is the EW notified when there is a
Family Reunification (FR) plan?
The Linkages GAIN Services Worker collocated
at the DCFS office will notify the Family
Reunification Liaison/Supervisor at both the
CalWORKs district and the GAIN region via the
DCFS 5230, AB 429 Notification Gram when
CalWORKs children are removed from the
home and whether or not an FR plan is in place
by DCFS. The following action is required:
• If the DCFS 5230 is only addressed to the
CalWORKs District FR Liaison and the
disposition indicates the referral will not be
processed, the parent is not eligible for FR
service coordination through the GAIN
program; and
The case-carrying EW must immediately:
• Remove the child(ren) from the Assistance
Unit (AU) as indicated by the LGSW in part
1 of the DCFS 5230; and
• Set the Family Reunification Special
Indicator flag on the LEADER Case
Summary screen;
• Update the “Case Comments”; and
• Transfer case to the Supportive Services
EW per existing case transfer instructions,
ensuring that the DCFS 5230 is attached to
the top of the paper case.
• If the DCFS 5230 is addressed to both the
CalWORKs and GAIN FR Liaisons and the
disposition indicates the referral will be
processed, the parent is eligible to FR
service coordination through the GAIN
Program.
What are the responsibilities of the
Supportive Services EW?
Since CalWORKs cash benefits on FR cases
are discontinued on LEADER, the Supportive
Services EW must manually track FR activities
on the FR Log.
