What are some exceptions to the deeming
of the sponsor’s income and resources?
Some exceptions are:
• If declared indigent and the sponsor
provides income or resources less than
the calculated deemed income or
resources amount, the actual amount of
the income provided is to be included in
the eligibility and the grant level
documentation.
• The exception applies on the date it is
determined and ends 12 months from
that date. The exception is only granted
once in a lifetime.

What are the sponsored noncitizen’s
responsibilities?
As a condition of eligibility, the sponsored
noncitizen’s responsibilities are to:
• Provide, upon request, information/
documentation about his/her sponsor to
determine eligibility, and to provide the
information/documentation used by these
individuals in support of their noncitizen
immigration application.
• Ensure that his/her sponsor cooperates in
the eligibility process.
• Comply with reporting requirements.
What happens when a sponsored
noncitizen is unwilling or refuses to provide
information regarding his/her sponsor?
