CalWORKs Policy - Department of Public Social Services

• A person who is fleeing to avoid
prosecution, custody or confinement after
conviction for a crime/attempt to commit a
crime that is a felony.
• A person who is violation of a condition of
probation or parole.
• A person who has been convicted in a
state/federal court of a felony for
possession, use or distribution of a
controlled substance. The conviction must
be after December 31, 1997. The term
convicted also includes a plea of guilty or
nolo contendere.
• A person who has been sanctioned for:
o Refusing to assign support rights.
o Failing to cooperate in the verification of
his/her citizenship or resident status.
o Failing or refusing without good cause to
meet GAIN (welfare-to-work)
requirements.
• A person who refuses/fails to furnish a
Social Security number (SSN) or provide
evidence of a completed application or
does not cooperate in verifying a SSN.
• A person who is a striker and is not a
caretaker relative.

Can a child receive both Kin-GAP and
CalWORKs?
No, children who receive Kin-GAP cannot
receive duplicate aid under CalWORKs.

Adults
When is a timed-out adult removed from the
Assistance Unit (AU)?
When an adult has received 60 months of
CalWORKs.
