The objectives of the agents of opportunity course are: to define toxic industrial
chemicals (TICs) and toxic industrial materials (these are things such as explosives and
radiologicals) (TIMs), describe the goals of toxic terrorism, discuss prioritization lists and
the appropriate community response to chemicals of concern. This course will provide
examples of terrorist events or chemical accidents to introduce the concept of using
clinical findings to identify and respond to these events.
The focus of the first module is to provide you with a broad overview and principles that
will be developed throughout the rest of the day’s interactions.
This module will use historical examples of toxic terrorism to explain how the prehospital,
public health, law enforcement, and medical communities can be better prepared for the
medical needs of patients.
