After a 2 ½ day siege, Russian security services pumped an unidentified chemical agent
into the building's ventilation system and raided it. Officially, 39 of the terrorists were
killed by Russian forces; at least 128 of the hostages died. Some estimates have put the
civilian death toll at more than 200.
