This is a Toxic Release Inventory map prepared by ATSDR shows the location of high
volume chemical production facilities in the U.S. that produce greater than 100,000
pounds of chemicals from the year 2000.
Each blue dot represents a facility containing more than 100,000 pounds, while the more
darkly shaded areas represent the scale of danger based on density of available
chemical(s).
As you can see, these plants are in every state and virtually every locality. In some
parts of the country - such as the heavily trafficked and populated northeast corridor and
the Gulf coast - these chemical production plants are in great abundance, increasing the
threat.
