Creating of the digital cartographic key and the new architecture in theGIS are very important. This paper, as part of technological development project realization (number TR 21037),describes appliance of the new architecture in GIS and digital cartographic key on the Web Map Serverenvironment for determination safety routes in transport of hazardous substances. All of that available to use newsoftware environment and solutions with more aspect, as: multi-viewing, accommodation to multi functional andmulti-user data accesses.Key words: hazardous substances, transport, safety routs, digital cartography, cartographic key, architecture of GIS,Web Map Server.INTRODUCTIONDevelopment of new, particularly Internet technology create in general conditions for a completely differentmanagement and distribution of geospatial data. In the “background” of digital maps, as well as the end product ofdigital cartography, is the whole system of procedures and equipment, which together form a whole -geoinformation system (GIS). Modern architecture is a GIS layer structure, and geospatial data (geometric andalphanumeric) are integrated and form the core of the system - the database.The advantages of this approach are multiple: all data is stored in one place (which means no redundancy data), datacan be accessed by multiple users at the same time (multi-user mode), easier to manage large amounts of data, fasterupdating of content, facilitate exchange of information between users and institutions, greater efficiency in workand so on.
