The expression (ber)tambah ... (ber)tambah .. . means the same as<br />

makin and is used in the same way. The difference is, if we add the<br />

prefix ber- to tambah, it is a little more formal. As with makin, the<br />

noun (or noun phrase) can be placed at the beginning of the sentence or<br />

after the first (ber)tambah phrase.<br />

Anak itu bertambah besar bertambah cantik parasnya.<br />

That child the older the more beautiful her face.<br />

+That child is more beautiful the older she gets.<br />

If we drop the prefix, the expression becomes less formal, like makin.<br />

The expression Kian ... kian is more formal. The noun (or noun phrase)<br />

can be placed at the beginning of the sentence or after the first kian<br />

phrase.<br />
