ways of responding to them. Some common ways of answering<br />
questions are discussed below.<br />
Positive answers with ya or iya<br />
To give a positive answer in Indonesian, we can use the word ya.<br />
A: Anda wartawan?<br />
Are you a journalist?<br />
B: Ya<br />
Yes.<br />
Often people say iya to emphasise or confirm an answer. Iya can be<br />
used, for example, to respond to tag questions.<br />
A: Karnu kakak Susan kan?<br />
You are Susan's older sibling, aren't you?<br />
B: b.<br />
Yes.<br />
Anak: Pak, nanti liburan sekolah kita ke Jakarta ya?<br />
Dad, next school holiday we're going to Jakarta, aren't we?<br />
Bapak: b.<br />

Ask questions using the tags bukan, kan or ya. Remember that these<br />
tags differ in their degree of formality. Use them appropriately by taking<br />
