of adult humans. Note particularly <strong>the</strong> representation of personae, <strong>the</strong> activation<br />

of motives, <strong>the</strong> long-term associative memory, and <strong>the</strong> attentional filters<br />

that modify not only <strong>the</strong> treatment of sensory data but also <strong>the</strong> interactions<br />

between different levels of sensory processing. Meta-management may be able<br />

to inspect intermediate states in perceptual layers, e.g., sensory quality. Indeed,<br />

<strong>the</strong> architecture of H-CogAff assumes that <strong>the</strong> evolution of <strong>the</strong> meta-management<br />

layer made possible <strong>the</strong> evolution of additional layers in perceptual and<br />

action systems related to <strong>the</strong> needs and capabilities of <strong>the</strong> meta-management<br />
