People who are educationally deprived often don’t have the<br />
self-confidence in their own identity, strengths and potential,<br />
and also in their personal limits. These key competencies<br />
are the essential basis for a mature adult life and the<br />
ability to independently search for a job.<br />
At this moment we are working on different financing models<br />
and a marketing strategy in order to keep the learning<br />
location profitable in the future.<br />

II. Solution approach<br />
Creating a big, colourful structure with their own hands and<br />
ideas – this is possible with the Fantastic Construction Site. In<br />
the last two years approximately 200 participants have built<br />
over 30 building blocks in this complete artwork on the site<br />
of the Ricklingen recreational centre. Pupils, juvenile delinquents,<br />
seniors, handicapped people, teachers, children in<br />
after-school care clubs, migrants and other people have<br />
worked together, lead by artists.<br />
At the Fantastic Construction Site, we trigger learning<br />
processes through an aesthetic education stance. The participants<br />
learn artistic and handicraft techniques and apply<br />
them practically and creatively. The adventure of being in a<br />
group and to participate in a work process is an experience<br />
which makes them aware of new potentials and helps them<br />
to extend their limits.<br />
A participating artist hit the nail on the head: “This project<br />
helped the pupils to recognise that they could work within a<br />
team and not lose their individuality and that this individuality<br />
even formed a big part of the result.”<br />
We assume that the participants will approach tasks in<br />
the future with more courage and with more self-confidence<br />
and that their sensitivity will increase towards the difficulties<br />
which other people have.<br />
The learning location plays an important role. Learning<br />
away from institutions with which the participants are normally<br />
familiar leads to the fact that learning becomes a special<br />
experience. Meanwhile, as more building blocks have<br />
been transformed than was originally planned this shows<br />
there is a great demand for mediating creative competencies.<br />
The FLUXUS network supports the funding agencies<br />
with the development of enduring perspectives.
