Agriculturists becoming Energy Economists –
Renewable Primary Products in the Gifhorn district

Looking at the grave changes that agricultural politics
brings with it, farmers and their families must search for
new sources of income in their main livelihood and additional
income. Up until now they have not had many possibilities
to qualify themselves for these future occupation
alternatives.
In 2005, we are offering seminars based on the demand.
Depending on the resonance and need, we will develop
additional qualification measures for our target groups.

II. Solution approach
Two themes with a future are “renewable primary products”
and “renewable energy”. In order to open new professional
perspectives for farmers and foresters, the Learning Network
in the Gifhorn district has developed further education
modules for an energy economist qualification.
At the moment, information meetings are being prepared
which will illuminate the subject of “renewable primary
products” under different viewpoints:
• Community, legal and economic aspects will be
considered as well as ethical-religious questions.
• Experts will cover the opportunities and possibilities that
renewable primary products offer farmers and foresters
through their own specific contexts.
Further education modules for the subjects “wood as a supplier
of energy and income” and “organic gas qualification”
will be presented within the framework of information
meeting. Farmers and foresters can register themselves as
interested in further education measures at the information
events.
