“Bildungsatlas” “Education Atlas” internet portal

In the City of Mainz and Mainz-Bingen Rural District there
are a large number of bodies providing very different further
education and training services. The search for a particular
course or targeted support measures has until now
been time-consuming and complicated.
II. Solution approach
We shall extend the system by the end of 2005 both in
respect of content (initial training, commerce and further
training) and regionally (to take in Rheinhessen). In addition,
by the end of 2004 we shall have a “multi-operator
function” available, which will allow the inexpensive creation
of further portals. All the systems are coupled, so that
an exchange of data and content is feasible without any
problems.
Since the end of November 2003, the “education atlas” internet
portal www.bildungsatlas-mainz.de has been giving
an overview of further education and training services and
providers in the Mainz and Mainz-Bingen region. As an
information platform, the “education atlas” sets out an easyto-understand
presentation of further education and training
opportunities in the region, makes it easier for individuals
to make their own plans in this field. At the same time,
the portal provides education-seekers not only with one-off
assistance, but accompanies them from their first attempts
to find their bearings through to specialized topics and advisory
services and right on to the choice of a course.
In this way, the “education atlas” will become a central platform,
which
• provides education-seekers with orientation assistance
and information about all aspects of education in the
region;
• serves our network partners as a marketing instrument;
• and makes the work of the “Step on!” known in the region.

The “education atlas” provides among other things:
• tips on further education and training,
• assistance in finding services and providers,
• information on educational counselling,
• a further education and training glossary,
• information about our “Step on!” network (partners,
events),
• a newsletter.
At the moment, those interested can look up the profiles of
more than 40 bodies providing educational and training
services. A search for courses in 2004 will come up with
approximately 1,100 possibilities. The portal is based on a
content-management system which allows not only the contents
of the pages but also profiles of the providers and
descriptions of the courses to be kept up to date. Providers
can enter their courses via entry mask or CSV files.
