Lifelong Learning Personal Development Planning

The aim was to ensure that disadvantaged people can
engage or re-engage with learning and through learning to
employment or economic engagement.
The first step to engaging with Lifelong Learning is the
process of identifying motivations from which appropriate
opportunities for fulfilment can be found. For the assessment
to be successful it needs to be inspirational, quickly understood,
meaningful, led and owned by the participant, enjoyable
to complete, and to lead to clear and sustainable goals.
Current techniques have been developed within very different
cultures. Some of them have focussed on communities of
interest, some on geographical communities. This diversity
has ensured that many innovative approaches have been
developed over many years. The added value is both in having
this diversity to call on and in the challenge that is produced
by the inevitability that different “entrenched” cultural
beliefs are held. Thereby our own ideas are challenged
and we change our own perspectives. This process we
believe acts like rain on parched land!
II. Solutions
The partnership will jointly develop and test a “best practice”
questionnaire based on assessment process.
The main activities and outputs have been:
• to provide the means to motivate individuals from socially
excluded groups to participate and successfully engage in
Lifelong Learning through the creation of an innovative
formal assessment process, called Lifelong Learning Personal
Development Planning
• to facilitate regional development by enabling the
learning regions to effectively respond to need and to
target future resources to maximum effect through the
provision of benchmarking information provided
by the process
• to create an effective network of learning regions through
shared experiences
• to utilise this experience as stepping stone to greater
effectiveness for the joint regions by designing of the
“best practice” process
