NEW LEARNING WORLDS
South-west Saxony Education Forum (Saxony)
South-west Saxony Citizens’ Academy and House of Education and Culture
I. Problem
III. Outlook
In order to react adequately to regional problems and the
demands raised by competition between regions, the
“South-west Saxony Education Forum” Learning Region is
developing innovative strategies and solution approaches.
This makes it possible to offer educational services throughout
the region, including south-west Saxony's rural, structurally
weak border region.
The “South-west Saxony Education Forum” is developing
educational products and services whose economic viability
will be secured in the long-term within the framework of a
legal and economically independent organisational form.
II. Solution approach
The aim of the “South-west Saxony Citizens’ Academy” is to
promote cross-generation learning and to bring together
political, general, cultural and vocational education programmes
for various target groups under one roof. In this
way, the “South-west Saxony Education Forum” will form
stronger links between formal and informal learning, cultural
awareness, entertainment and encounter, along with
information and advice about educational and cultural
services in the region. The contents of the academy’s services
are aimed at citizens from all age groups and educational
backgrounds. This approach promotes dialogue, mutual
understanding and the cooperation of the families of the
various target-groups.
Based at a total of nine locations, the Citizens’ Academy
focuses on lecture-series and excursions. The “South-west
Saxony Education Forum” also organises a senior citizens'
college and the Sunday University programme at Chemnitz's
Technical University. Furthermore, we plan to establish
a concept for a “children’s university”. In addition, we
plan to hold more educational events such as workshops
and conferences with “edutainment” character which will
reach out to other regions. The participation of less mobile
and disadvantaged but interested members of the community
is supported by a multimedia approach to the educational
events.
