Learning Information Centre<br />

I. Problem<br />

Citizens, institutions and companies in Neumünster seeking<br />

specific information on the subject of studying and education<br />

are frequently faced with the time-consuming and not<br />

always successful task of searching in the labyrinth of<br />

regional institutions.<br />

II. Solution approach<br />

Since April 2004, information and advice can be obtained at<br />

the “Learning-Information Centre” on all subjects and questions<br />

relating to education and further study. The organisation<br />

Lernladen Neumünster e.V. set up this "centre" in the<br />

customer centre of a major regional daily newspaper in the<br />

heart of Neumünster.<br />

This cooperation guarantees low-threshold access to learning<br />

and further study. Even groups of persons who have<br />

been previously remote from education can be reached<br />

more easily.<br />

An information service offered in the mornings on a<br />

one-to-one basis is supplemented by display systems where<br />

educational institutions in Neumünster can introduce and<br />

publicise their programmes. At a computerised workstation,<br />

visitors can also help themselves, e.g. by carrying out<br />

Internet research in course data bases, trying out learning<br />

software, etc.<br />

These services are supplemented by regional players<br />

who offer free information and advice on specific themes at<br />

the Learning Information Centre. These institutions offer<br />

information and advice on subjects from their respective<br />

fields of work. All participating regional players exchange<br />

information about their respective counselling services at<br />

regular meetings, making it possible to refer customers and<br />

offer each other support.<br />

In August 2004, the Learning Information Centre was<br />

able to present to the general public a six-month programme<br />

with a total of 50 counselling dates by 15 different<br />

regional experts.<br />

III. Outlook<br />

The “Learning Information Centre” has the potential to<br />

make a significant contribution towards the quantitative<br />

and qualitative optimisation of information and counselling<br />

services in the fields of learning, education and further education<br />

in the region of Neumünster.<br />

In the medium to long-term, the centre will acquire and<br />

offer other services in the field of “learning” for and by institutions,<br />

organisations, companies, governmental authorities<br />

and citizens.<br />
