Boys and girls in our region with a migration background find<br />
it much more difficult to participate in education, vocational<br />
orientation and training. Lacking co-ordination between the<br />
institutions of general and vocational education often leads<br />
to breaks and failures in the individual educational biographies.<br />
II. Solution approach<br />
A wide range of new vocational orientation modules for<br />
girls and boys from 7th to 9th grade have been developed,<br />
tested, modified and improved. They represent a new<br />
method to work with the target group providing an early orientation<br />
in vocational training already at the school level.<br />
Within the meaning of "gender mainstreaming", girls are<br />
introduced to technical, manual and IT-related professions<br />
in single-sex groups. In addition, the network establishes<br />
new education forms at the interface between educational<br />
sectors. So it is planned to provide links to blended learning<br />
opportunities in the course of the project, mainly in order to<br />
improve literacy and linguistic competencies.<br />
After successfully testing the models, we plan to:<br />
• establish long-term cooperation with local companies<br />
• discuss and try out new ways of helping school-leavers<br />
make the transition to the working world with chambers<br />
and employers (e.g. one-year accompanying placement<br />
or partial qualification by companies)<br />
• publish a manual and transfer: career orientation at<br />
schools in cooperation with the youth welfare services – a<br />
model for full-time schools<br />
• career orientation centre at school – a model for full-time<br />
school<br />

The subjects of the modules are:<br />
• test and application training,<br />
• Company research/company inquiry (48 regional<br />
companies were involved in the week-long seminar to<br />
establish early and systematic contacts to the working<br />
reality of potential (apprenticeship)employers),<br />
• Life planning (the connection between perspectives in life<br />
and work are worked out in small groups).<br />
• Individual guidance until the first year of apprenticeship<br />
(in individual cases)
