Where applicable the standard <strong>of</strong> any equipment, facility or service to be<br />

provided shall be to the maximum standard prescribed in this Policy.<br />

Spouse and Partner Expenses<br />

2.3 In this clause accompanying person means a person who has a close<br />

personal relationship with a <strong>Council</strong>lor and/or provides carer support to the<br />

<strong>Council</strong>lor.<br />

In limited circumstances <strong>Council</strong> shall meet certain costs incurred by a<br />

<strong>Council</strong>lor on behalf <strong>of</strong> their spouse, partner or accompanying person that<br />

are properly and directly related to the role <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Council</strong>lor, such as costs<br />

associated with attendance at <strong>of</strong>ficial <strong>Council</strong> functions that are <strong>of</strong> a formal<br />

and ceremonial nature when accompanying <strong>Council</strong>lors within metropolitan<br />

Sydney.<br />

Costs and expenses incurred by the <strong>Council</strong>lor on behalf <strong>of</strong> their spouse,<br />

partner or accompanying person shall be reimbursed if the cost or expense<br />

relates specifically to the ticket, meal and/or direct cost <strong>of</strong> attending the<br />

function. Each <strong>Council</strong>lor is entitled to a maximum <strong>of</strong> $200 per year <strong>of</strong> term<br />

for these types <strong>of</strong> expenses.<br />

In addition <strong>Council</strong> shall meet limited expenses <strong>of</strong> spouses, partners or<br />

accompanying persons associated with attendance at the Local Government<br />

and Shires Associations’ annual conferences. These expenses are limited<br />

to the cost <strong>of</strong> registration and the <strong>of</strong>ficial conference dinner. Expenses such<br />

as travel expenses, any additional accommodation expenses and the cost <strong>of</strong><br />

any accompanying persons program shall not be met by <strong>Council</strong>.<br />

Costs associated with spouses, partners or accompanying persons attending<br />

other conferences, seminars and training courses shall not be met by<br />

<strong>Council</strong>.<br />

Also, <strong>Council</strong> shall meet limited expenses <strong>of</strong> spouses, partners or<br />

accompanying persons <strong>of</strong> the Mayor, or a <strong>Council</strong>lor representing the Mayor,<br />

when attending an <strong>of</strong>ficial function <strong>of</strong> <strong>Council</strong> or carrying out an <strong>of</strong>ficial<br />

ceremonial duty while accompanying the Mayor outside <strong>Council</strong>’s area, but<br />

within New South Wales. Such circumstances could include charitable<br />

functions or award ceremonies to which the Mayor has been invited to<br />

attend. These expenses are limited to the ticket, meal and/or direct cost <strong>of</strong><br />

attending the function.<br />

In all cases under this clause peripheral expenses <strong>of</strong> spouses, partners or<br />

accompanying persons such as grooming, special clothing and transport are<br />

not considered reimbursable expenses.<br />
