This indicator measures unit circulation per head <strong>of</strong> population for a library service. Ku-ring-gai’s circulation <strong>of</strong> 8.77 per resident is above the Group 3 <strong>Council</strong>s<br />
average <strong>of</strong> 6.88, but is below the neighbouring <strong>Council</strong>s average <strong>of</strong> 9.76.<br />
It should be noted that this indicator understates the use <strong>of</strong> library resources as many visitors to libraries do not borrow material but obtain information from<br />
reference collections including e-resources, photocopies, reading <strong>of</strong> magazines & newspapers, and collections such as family history and local studies.<br />
This indicator can be influenced by factors such as: the type and location <strong>of</strong> the library, the level <strong>of</strong> service <strong>of</strong>fered and the hours <strong>of</strong> opening, the number <strong>of</strong><br />
registered borrowers, the proportion <strong>of</strong> non-resident borrowers and visitors, the availability <strong>of</strong> technology, the age and accessibility <strong>of</strong> the stock and the<br />
characteristics <strong>of</strong> the population.<br />
