Care and Other Related Expenses<br />

2.9 Care <strong>of</strong> relatives<br />

In this clause, relative shall have the same meaning as set out in the<br />

Dictionary in the Act;<br />

Relative, in relation to a person, means any <strong>of</strong> the following:<br />

(a) the parent, grandparent, brother, sister, uncle, aunt, nephew,<br />

niece, lineal descendant or adopted child <strong>of</strong> the person or <strong>of</strong><br />

the person’s spouse;<br />

(b) the spouse or de facto partner <strong>of</strong> the person or <strong>of</strong> a person<br />

referred to in paragraph (a).<br />

Where a <strong>Council</strong>lor has responsibilities for the care and support <strong>of</strong> any<br />

relative, <strong>Council</strong> shall reimburse the actual cost incurred by the <strong>Council</strong>lor to<br />

engage pr<strong>of</strong>essional care for the relative whenever considered necessary by<br />

the <strong>Council</strong>lor in order for the <strong>Council</strong>lor to discharge the functions <strong>of</strong> civic<br />

<strong>of</strong>fice.<br />

The total amount paid to a <strong>Council</strong>lor under this provision shall not exceed<br />

$2,000 per year <strong>of</strong> term.<br />

Special requirements <strong>of</strong> <strong>Council</strong>lors<br />

<strong>Council</strong> shall meet reasonable expenses associated with any special<br />

requirements <strong>of</strong> a <strong>Council</strong>lor, such as disability and access needs, in order to<br />

discharge the functions <strong>of</strong> civic <strong>of</strong>fice.<br />

The total amount paid to a <strong>Council</strong>lor under this provision shall not exceed<br />

$2,000 per year <strong>of</strong> term.<br />

Insurance Expenses and Obligations<br />

2.10 <strong>Council</strong> shall meet the cost <strong>of</strong> providing the following insurance cover for<br />

<strong>Council</strong>lors on a 24 hour basis while discharging the functions <strong>of</strong> civic<br />

<strong>of</strong>fice including attendance at meetings <strong>of</strong> external bodies as <strong>Council</strong>’s<br />

representative:<br />

• Public Liability insurance<br />

• Pr<strong>of</strong>essional Indemnity insurance<br />

• Personal Accident insurance<br />

<strong>Council</strong> shall pay the insurance policy excess in respect <strong>of</strong> any claim made<br />

against a <strong>Council</strong>lor arising from <strong>Council</strong> business where any claim is<br />

accepted by <strong>Council</strong>’s insurers, whether defended or not.<br />
