MAS Unattended Back Up
The installation technician administers each MAS to automatically back up MAS data
when your Avaya Modular Messaging system is installed.
The MAS performs the unattended backup using the private LAN to copy data from the
MAS to the Avaya Message Storage Server (MSS). After the MAS data are copied to
the Avaya MSS, the files are backed up again along with critical Avaya MSS system
files during the Avaya MSS unattended backup.
A scheduled task runs nightly on the MAS to run a DCT Analyze. The output file is
backup.mmdct. This file is stored on C:\Program Files\Avaya Modular
Messaging\Install\miscm\cfg. The scheduled backup task copies all *.mmdct files from
this folder to the Avaya MSS, along with the normal backup file. The Avaya MSS then
backs up the \mss1\masbackup shares.
Note: The scheduled MAS unattended backup overwrites the backed-up MAS data
each night. If you want to restore any data from a previous day, such as the
previous version of a custom tone file or prompt, you must restore the data
before the nightly backup occurs.
The MAS unattended backup is usually scheduled to run one hour before midnight.
You can reschedule this time, if it does not meet the needs of your company.
! Do not schedule MAS unattended backups to occur between midnight and
4 AM. This avoids any conflict with important system audits that run each
night at midnight. Also, the unattended backup for the complete Modular
Messaging system runs each night at 3:05 AM.
! Schedule MAS unattended backups to occur on a daily basis. Do this to
ensure that you have a backup of the most recent MAS files.
