These real time packets andnon-real time packets can coexist within the CE<strong>150</strong>, and bothtypes of signals can share the composite data stream over DSLports and WAN ports.Both types of packets can also flow simultaneously over any ofthe CE<strong>150</strong>’s Virtual Circuits: ATM, Frame Relay, or DSL. To optimizevoice per<strong>for</strong>mance in this mixed environment, the CE<strong>150</strong>provides <strong>for</strong> the assignment of various levels of priority to delaysensitive,real time packets over non-real time packets.Separate mechanisms are used <strong>for</strong> allocating priorities to trafficreceived over the DSL port (Class of Service), and traffic transmittedover the DSL port (Priority Queuing) without regard tothe data rates on the various DSL links.&ODVVRI6HUYLFHThis function applies to packets received by the DSL ports onthe CE<strong>150</strong>. It allows you to assign a level or class of service toeach of the DSL ports, using cmIface. When you indicate thenetmodel, the net mask, and the IP address <strong>for</strong> a DSL port, youalso can enter a class of service <strong>for</strong> it. Typically, you will give aDSL port carrying voice a higher level of service than a DSL portcarrying regular IP data traffic.The CE<strong>150</strong> allows you to set four levels of service: A, B, C, andD, where A is the highest class and D is the lowest. The defaultis D. The relative weight of each of the levels or classes is configuredusing the cmServiceClass MIB group. For more in<strong>for</strong>mationon how these relative weights are derived, and how theyaffect their assigned interfaces, see the description in the cm-ServiceClass MIB group definition in the <strong>CopperEdge</strong> <strong>150</strong> CopperCraftReference and MIB Definitions <strong>manual</strong>.Once configured, the value selected as the weight <strong>for</strong> a particularclass of service is the same <strong>for</strong> that class <strong>for</strong> every DSL portto which it is applied.
