&RQILJXULQJWKH*GPWDQG*OLWH'DWD1HWZRUNThe procedure for configuring the CE150 and CPEs for a Cross-Connect netmodel with PPP is different from the procedure forconfiguring them for a full IP netmodel. But, in both cases, it isbest to start with the WAN VCs and their upstream routers. Then, work your way down to the DSL ports and link them tothe WAN VCs.Finally, configure the CPE routers or CPE bridges and the hostsconnected to them. The procedures for configuring the CPErouters or CPE bridges and the attached hosts, however, willvary according to the type and brand of CPE router or bridgeand the type of operating system running on the host. But severalbasic steps are always present.&URVV&RQQHFW1HWPRGHOIn the Cross-Connect netmodel with PPP, the end points of theVCs must be manually configured for each stage in the link.(See the diagram below.)VCs on the Telco router going to the CE150 must be mapped toVCs on the WAN interface of the CE150. WAN VCs on one sideof the DSLAM must be mapped to the DSL VCs on the otherside. And, finally, VCs on the DSL interface going to the CPErouter must be mapped to VCs on the CPE. For each PPP link, the procedure must be repeated. A new WAN VC must be createdfor each new DSL VC.In the following diagram, only one DSL port and one WAN portappear. In the procedure that follows, first the WAN VC, at1.2.1.130, will be created. Then the DSL VC, at 1.4.1.23, will becreated. Finally, the DSL VC will be mapped to the WAN VC.Configuration of the VC on the Telco router and configurationof the VC on the CPE router are not shown.VC 1.4.1.23HOST1HOST2NAT &DHCPCPERouterCross-ConnectDSLAMRouteTablesTelcoRouterVPI=0VCI=32VPI=1VCI=121Cross-Connect Netmodel—VPIs and VCIs&RSSHU(GJH,QVWDOODWLRQDQG2SHUDWLQJ*XLGH
