The cmSDSLTestgroup (described in the <strong>CopperEdge</strong> <strong>150</strong> CopperCraftReference and MIB Definitions <strong>manual</strong>) provides two tests thatare useful <strong>for</strong> evaluating and troubleshooting SDSL loops. TheSeekMaxRate test can help to establish the fastest data ratethat a specified DSL loop will sustain with a connected CPE.The Loop Profile test examines the overall condition of the loopbetween physical ports on the CE<strong>150</strong> and their respective CPE.The Loop Profile test can also be used to verify the integrity ofthe SDSL loop between the CE<strong>150</strong> and the first 500 feet of theloop, typically the portion of the loop within the CO itself.Typically, a loop test is run at the time of installation in orderto establish a baseline <strong>for</strong> future assessment. Data from thetest is kept on file and can then be used to per<strong>for</strong>m line-qualityanalysis or <strong>for</strong> troubleshooting if needed.To check continuity over the entire length of the SDSL loop, youneed the cooperation of an assistant at the CPE site who cancommunicate in real time with the person operating the CE<strong>150</strong>.To per<strong>for</strong>m this test, follow these steps:1. Tell the assistant at the CPE site to disconnect the DSLline from the CPE, thus opening the loop.2. At the CE<strong>150</strong> console, enter the following command:CRAFT> set cmsdsltest [pii of the sdsl port]type=type_of_test action=start3. At the CE<strong>150</strong> console, wait five or ten seconds, thenenter a get cmsdsltest command.Observe and record the value displayed in theContinuityTest-Result field.4. At the CE<strong>150</strong> console, while observing the valuedisplayed in the ContinuityTestResult field, tell theassistant at the CPE site to apply a short between pins2 and 3 of the RJ-11 plug at the end of the DSL line.5. At the CE<strong>150</strong> console, wait five seconds and repeat theget cmsdsltest command.There should be a perceptible change in the value ofthe integer displayed in the ContinuityTestResult field;observe and record the new value.6. At the CE<strong>150</strong> console, while observing the valuedisplayed in the ContinuityTestResult field, tell theassistant at the CPE site to remove the short from theRJ-11 plug at the end of the DSL line.&KDSWHU7URXEOHVKRRWLQJ
