Ergativelanguages: the ergative is identical with the genitive (possessive sentence construction);hardly any indication <strong>of</strong> a noun-verb distinction. Word order SOV. The verb agrees withthe subject <strong>and</strong> the object. Complex number system (with dual), very productivederivational mechanisms, tendency towards descriptivity.
