7.4.2 Picking Lists
In most cases that use lean WM for picking, a transfer order is created for each
delivery document. It is printed as a picking list. The picking list is given to warehouse
employees. They work through the list, note any differences, or indicate
correct removal from the storage location. The removal of the materials is then
confirmed in the transfer order — with the desired and correct quantity or, in the
case of an exception, with a different quantity.
In many companies, Radio Frequency (RF) has proved itself valuable. RF means
that warehouse employees work with handhelds or smaller PC and radio waves
on forklifts when communicating with the SAP software. They can confirm the
picked items right at the storage location. Even in this case, employees still work
with a picking list, because it gives them an overview of the complete delivery. A
handheld displays only part of the information on an item.
The printing of picking lists is located in WM, not in LE. That’s why message types
do not control picking lists. All of the remaining documents that are printed for
a delivery document are normally controlled by message types (see Chapter 10,
Transport Papers and Documents).
Some settings are required to control printing of picking lists. Figure 7.20 illustrates
the individual steps. Because they involve system settings, they are not
discussed in detail here. If you must make settings for your picking lists in your
company, you should make them with your system administrator.
Here are brief descriptions of the most important settings:
You use the Spool code button to print your lists immediately from the list spool,
delete them from the list spool after printing, and print copies automatically. You
maintain this information for each warehouse number. You can create several combinations
and distinguish them with a spool number.
You use the Printer pool / Labels button to maintain the printers available in
your warehouse.
