data, for example, the boiling and melting point, viscosity, density, flash point, and
water solubility. The Packaging tab contains packaging regulations and permitted
modes of transportation. The Exceptions tab lists the maximum quantity, excepted
quantities, and exemptions. The data on the last two tabs directly affects shipping
and transportation processes. You can enter texts and phrases in the Labeling and
Printed Texts tabs. Information about the rules of mixed loading of different dangerous
goods is also important for transportation. If you combine materials from
different dangerous goods classes in the same shipment, and these materials cause
a certain reaction when they mix with each other (for example, in an accident), the
appropriate rules have to be entered in the Mixed Loading tab.
It would go beyond the scope of this book to describe all the dangerous goods
rules and all options for dangerous goods management. However, Chapter 9, Dangerous
Goods Management, will describe them in more detail.
3.6 Summary
This chapter has described the master data and the fields that are important for
employees in Shipping and Transportation so that the processes can be based on a
solid foundation. Many errors that occur during the process flow can be avoided
by maintaining master data in a more conscientious and careful manner.
You now have basic knowledge of the material and customer master, and also of
the vendor, batch, and dangerous goods master. In the next chapter, I will discuss
the documents that are relevant for the delivery document.
