10 Shipping Papers and Documents 10.1 Standard SAP Printouts Several printouts come as standard with the SAP software. You can extend these standard printouts in any way you like and incorporate them into the output determination process. I will now give you an overview of the output determination function before moving on to a more detailed description. To process deliveries and transports, you have to create output in the delivery document that is then presented to the carrier in printed form. You will also have to print output for other purposes, such as to identify pallets and boxes, and you will have to send output to your partners by fax, e-mail, and EDI. A message ID is assigned to these various forms of output; in SAP terminology, this is the output type. Thus, the delivery document has its own output type, just like the packing list and the pallet label. The most important output types in the SAP standard are summarized in Tables 10.1 to 10.3. Therefore, I will go step by step through the individual settings and the options associated with each one. It is usually developers who make the Customizing settings, and they also usually make any necessary adjustments to the print templates and programs. Many companies also use their own in-house print programs. An introduction to ABAP/4 and SAPScript (these are the programming languages and tools that are used to create print programs) is beyond the scope of this book, but there are numerous other books on programming in this area. 10.2 Output Determination Group the output types that you require in your process to form an output determination procedure. Then, if the output in question belongs to the delivery document, assign this procedure to a delivery type. However, because not every output type is required in every delivery document, you can specify for each output type the conditions under which this output is set in the delivery document. These criteria are specified in the condition tables. If you have multiple criteria, group your criteria together in order of priority to form an access sequence. Lastly, assign this access sequence to an output type. Figure 10.1 shows an overview of the output determination concept.
